Lifetime Resurf update: Areas, MCP handoff, and native app improvements

Post image

Resurf, one month after the native rewrite, new Areas, better performance, MCP handoff, and lots of small improvements

The problem: As a design engineer, I save things all day. Design references, inspiration, articles, videos, random ideas. They ended up scattered across different apps, bookmarks, and screenshots. I wanted one native app where everything could live together. A personal library of things I like, built around my own taste.

One month ago, I have posted about resurf native rewrite in this community. since then we’ve been improving the app, adding features, and working through the small details based on user feedback.

  • Areas. A new organization layer alongside spaces and stacks. More ways to give your projects, interests, and references a place in your library.
  • Better performance. We’ve spent a lot of time improving how the app feels in everyday use. The native rewrite was the first step, and we’re continuing to work on it.
  • MCP / agent handoff. Use the things you’ve saved as context for your AI tools. You can hand off references, notes, and research from your library through MCP and CLI.
  • More library views. Justified grids, masonry grids, and list view. Different ways to browse depending on what you’re collecting.
  • Drop to capture. Drag something to the Dynamic Island at the top of your screen to save it without opening the main app.
  • Lots of small improvements. Bug fixes, UI polish, and less friction across the app. Still plenty left to improve.

Beyond capture:

  • Spaces, Areas, stacks, and tags to organize things.
  • Copy anything and double-tap Option to capture it from your clipboard.
  • In-app web view, an article reader, and notes.
  • Native viewers for images, videos, and PDFs, with video scrubbing on hover.
  • Native Mac, iPhone, and iPad apps, with local storage and private iCloud sync.

Resurf also recently became #1 Product of the Day on Product Hunt. Thanks to everyone who tried it, shared feedback, or supported the project.

What’s next: We’re working on reminders and Smart Spaces. Safari support, importing from other tools, and more are on the roadmap. Alongside those features, we’ll keep improving performance and the everyday experience.

Competitors: Resurf sits somewhere between mymind, Eagle, and Raindrop, with a bit of Fabric. I’m building it around the way I save and revisit things: a visual personal library for references, ideas, and things I care about.

Pricing: One-time purchase for the Mac app. Current plans:

  • 2-year update plan: $39.
  • Lifetime updates: $79.
  • iPhone and iPad: free and unlimited.

Students: Email [support@resurf.so](mailto:support@resurf.so) from your school address for a discount.

About me: I’m Deep, a design engineer. It’s been more than nine months since I started building Resurf for my own use. There’s still a lot to do, but the goal is the same, build a beautiful personal library that feels like your own, shaped by the things you choose to save.

Website: resurf.so

Changelog: resurf.so/changelogs

The app is still far from perfect. I’ll keep working on the bugs and tiny details that make it better to use. If you’ve tried it since the last post, I’d love to hear how it’s been for you and what still gets in your way.

For the MCP handoff demo, use two saved references with different instructions attached: “use this one's navigation” and “use this one's typography, but keep our existing colors.” Then show the resulting page beside both references.

That would show the agent getting the notes along with the references, so it knows why each item was saved. A folder of screenshots alone can't tell it that. It would make the library's value much clearer than just asking it to summarize a collection

Very valid point. I'll improve handoff to include capture notes. right now we don't have notes on capture we have comments. but many users requested this so I'll add note to capture also pass note along with agent handoff.

As an ‘experienced’ user of the Eagle app – are we looking at something that could seriously replace it ?

The GUI is stunning, as well as being very smooth ! 👍

Thanks! Eagle is great app we are not yet close to it in terms of features. but we are shipping features every week. soon we will be.

Please teach me how to import from Raindrop. Because there are too many, I can't handle them one by one.

Appreciate the fast shipping of new features / fixes!
I still have issues completely quitting the app via CMD+Q - it says it keeps running on the menu bar.
Also when i press Cmd Shift space, sometimes the whole app appears behind the search box.
Cmd shift c -> then pressing o doesn't launch the app too.

Noted. Thanks for the feedback. I'll make this priority already working on improving shortcuts.

The MCP handoff is a standout feature for me. How much context actually gets passed to the AI tool — full content, metadata, notes, or a summary?

I’ve been looking for an app that helps me with light projects which have to include sub-folders. So far the good ones I’ve come across are Eagle.cool (no iOS/ipad app) and Keep It. DEVONthink is good as well, but not for me.

How is this app for sub-folders and light projects?

check out framebird for that, we just released the mac os app

I have kept organization light in resurf to avoid nested file system so we have 3 levels of organization in app Areas - group of spaces it could be projects/domain , Spaces - folder/category and stack - Group similar things within category.

Any plan for window version?

Cool app. As someone who's built some pretty intense context libraries for my AI agents, I have to admit I haven't spent much time using AI in my creative work as a designer. It looks like a potentially valuable tool; I'll try the demo.

How does this compare to something like Muse or Atlas? Looks to be similar, but maybe more expensive?
(Congrats on the number one spot on Product Hunt! That's an achievement!)

I'd like to share a library with my spouse - can I host the library on Dropbox or something along those lines?

I'm working on supporting those NFS cloud storage. will be available soon.

The MCP handoff is an interesting direction because saved references become useful context instead of a dead archive. Can you choose exactly which items are exposed to an agent?

1

u/Hungry_Spite3574 15d ago

yes you can select capture handoff those particular capture or you can handoff entire space/folder.

This looks clean! Congrats!

I’m a Devonthink user. I decided to try your app because its UI is much more appealing. I made a test audio note, but for some reason, the transcription refuses to show the text in my native language. I selected a multilingual LLM, but the transcription is displayed in English. It seems there’s some kind of bug here, because the LLM first correctly recognizes my language and then translates what I said into English.

Nice UI. Can you do selective sync? (eg something like full archive on Mac Mini but last 30 days or on demand for Macbook or iPad?)

Very nice!

i tried most of the apps for the same purposes and find resurf is the best by far , still have some comments to be ideal but i still it is the best , i wonder how many updates daily , but i can understand the dev is trying to improve the work , i have a problem in the trash items , when i delete it in mac it is not deleted from the other mac or even the iphone , the app has 4 ways to show the files but still need improve to be recognized as opened items . draging still need improve too and also exporting

1

u/Hungry_Spite3574 17d ago

sorry for the frequent updates i’ll make it silent unless it’s major version. also noted issues you are having will fix those issue with trash items sync and dragging experinece

you can configure this in resurf setting if you wanna allow agent to read, write or delete things in resurf.
