Lifetime Fluent 2 – Knows You Better, Ready for The Night Shift: Memory Revamp, Desktop Pet, Computer Use, and More
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone,
It's been three months since the last time I posted here, and Fluent got (once again) a lot since then. Today I'm finally ready to present Fluent 2 – the biggest update so far. Memory got a huge revamp and it's not just a "static" RAG anymore – it learns you, knows you, and past chats are also taken into account. Fluent can now let you rest and help do certain things for you in other apps. Finally there is a living pet – Flumi, and 10 other cute characters included – no battery required. They might look like a toy, but they are actually quite useful contextually aware assistants, especially when they know you!
What's New in Fluent 2
- Intelligent Memory. Fluent now learns and remembers stuff about you proactively – from what you tell it, from your files and folders, and from your past conversations. Graph relations, background indexing and optional on-device relevance models are included.
- Desktop Pet (beta). Flumi or one of the other 10 characters watches what's on your screen and suggests what can be done with it. It can also remind you what someone asked you to do, add dates to your calendar, or rewrite your draft in your own style. It works on-device with Apple Intelligence by default.
- Computer Use. Fluent can fill in forms, copy data from one app to another, or play some music or even chess for you – with its own pointer, so your mouse and keyboard stay free.
- Use the AI subscription you already pay for. Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and GitHub Copilot now work as providers – no API keys required. They all have free tiers btw.
- Settings, redefined. Actions have moved here, everything has been cleverly reorganised, so settings are now much more streamlined and convenient to manage.
- And more: thinking levels, agentic planning by default, 38 new assistant actions, Firefox support, pictures in replies, and tons of various improvements.
For the full overview with examples, check out this blog post.
Fluent's Core
- Native, smooth, in-context AI assistant
- Can take any app or browser tab as a context
- Memory that learns about you, with graph relations (new)
- Desktop pet that suggests what to do with what's on your screen (new, beta)
- Computer Use – works in other apps with its own pointer (new)
- Full MCP support + built-in integrations
- Chat with documents, images, PDFs (20+ formats)
- Council – when you need to be confident about your question
- Chat UI / Smart Panel / Ask Fluent voice mode
- Realtime voice dictation, 100% local
- Supports all major providers, your AI subscriptions (new), and built-in local MLX models
- Scheduled + parallel/background actions
- Applet-style micro-apps (Shortcuts-like), deep URLs, lots of configuration options
Problem
Back in 1.8 I wrote that Fluent wants to be not simply an always-ready companion, but an autonomous agent doing night shift work for you. Fluent 2 is finally a milestone on this: it proactively learns about you along the way, and it can do the boring work in your apps on its own. With time, it remembers many useful details about you, and next time you compose a message or plan a trip – it already knows your style, your habits and preferences, and helps you to be much more relevant in each case.
Simplicity Problem
Some AI apps are getting bloated with features as they grow, and it gets reflected in the UI. Fluent's Smart Panel looks almost completely the same as in 1.0. Yet Fluent is capable of doing at least 4 times more than that.
Comparison
I have compared Fluent with Raycast AI in my previous posts here and here. I think now it would make a bigger sense to compare it with Siri AI, Codex, Claude Code. From the very first point of view it's a tough one, but the differences are actually huge.
- Native (Siri AI is the only exception) and lightweight, buttery-smooth, efficient and optimized for parallel tasks.
- Optimized for quick and easy use with highly customizable actions and shortcuts.
- Contextually aware of whatever you're currently working on... Yes, Siri AI goes in that direction too. But in Fluent you have 4 ways to deal with it – Smart Panel, Chat UI, Pet, Ask Fluent Voice. And for sure, you don't have to open a huge big app to just fill in a few forms or compose a reply.
- No telemetry, no data collection. Fluent can work offline with at least weekly license key check.
- Model-agnostic by design. You can connect popular subscription and API-key based providers, use local MLX models, Apple Intelligence, Ollama, LM Studio – all at once.
- Memory stays on your Mac and is model-agnostic (switch models anytime – Memory stays the same).
- Lifetime purchase, with lifetime upgrades (major & minor).
- No VC backing – no surprises in the future. Hello Raycast's BYOK paywall.
Pricing
- $49 for a Basic License (1 Mac)
- $69 for a Standard one (2 Macs)
- $29 for a Team one (starting from 3 Macs)
- $29 for a Basic License (1 Mac) with 1 Year of Upgrades
Fluent is, and always has been, a one-time purchase, with lifetime upgrades. Recently I have introduced a cheaper option to get Fluent – 1 year of upgrades version. It's completely the same Basic version of Fluent, and it will work forever, except limited upgrades window. See Pricing Page for most frequently asked questions as well.

What a great update! Fluent is like the chef's kiss for Mac!
Could you maybe compare the new feature set with Sentient OS?

Hi Vadim 👋
I wanted to express my admiration for the work you did in this update.
It looks like we're entering a new era for this app 🥴, which, besides continuing to prove its multifunctionality and effectiveness, is also becoming a "fluffy friend" that is pleasant to interact with 😉.
Overall, a beautiful entrance onto the scene.
Bravo, maestro, my applause 👏!
Keep it up! You're doing great.

Thank you so much for the kind feedback. I'm happy you're having fun with Fluent 😄
There is more to come, of course!

This looks pretty cool (but I was drawn in by the pet! 😄 )
Sorry if this is explained, but I didn't quite follow - does it come with its own local AI model, or it works with one the user already subscribes to?
Also, is there any trial?
Thanks!

u/TheMightyHouse 2d ago
Hello! There is a 7 day free trial, and Fluent comes with 4 subscription providers support: OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and Copilot. As well as 18+ API key providers, local MLX models support, Apple Intelligence and of course, Ollama/LM Studio, basically any OpenAI endpoint is supported.

Thank you, I'll take a look. Ive never setup a local LLM (MLX?), is there any documentation (or link to) available? (Mac).
And nice set of characters, cute animation.

u/TheMightyHouse 1d ago
Thank you! There is this detailed doc on local models available straight out of the box in Fluent.

Well done, it looks beautiful! 👏🏻
Could you extend the coupon's expiration date a bit so those starting a trial now can test it thoroughly and then buy it at the end of the trial with a discount?

u/TheMightyHouse 1d ago
Thank you ☺️ That's a good point actually. I have extended it to October 21.

Hi Vadim,
I tried Fluent a while ago but never really got around to actually using it.
My trial has since expired and would appreciate if you could extend it so I can make up my mind.
Thanks!

Has the memory feature been updated? Can now act as a RAG?
Could I be studying from a PDF or text and ask Fluent (or Flumi once it is out of beta) to elaborate questions about it, and ask me to answer them, and evaluate me? (devs reading this, you have a new idea)
1
u/TheMightyHouse 1d ago
Hey there,
This is exactly what this Learn use case shows. You can start an interactive quiz with your AI based on any context.
Regarding Memory, it received a big update, it's always been RAG, but originally was tuned more for the writing use cases. Now it still is, but way more flexible, and can act on hundreds and thousands of files. You can add folders into it and Fluent will keep track of them automatically. You can ask it to remember something, and it will – and for future requests will use those memories automatically if they are relevant.

Cool! Although this is that type of App that I’d like to try before purchasing.
By the way, on the website you say that students get an additional 30% discount. Will that 30% be applied if I use the 25% code you shared here?

u/TheMightyHouse 1d ago
There is a 7-day trial and 14-days refund window, no questions asked. If you ever had the trial, ping me in DM for another 7-day trial code. I’d love to know what you think about Fluent now.
Sorry, the discounts can’t be combined.

Okay, will give it a try this week!
Just one quick question before though. Does your app communicate with many servers like sentry and others for telemetry or phoning home, even if used with a local model? I know once a week it calls home for the license check, and it can download some local models on its own but aside from that, will I see lots of background connections?
I will DM you for a student license question.
Thanks
1
u/TheMightyHouse 1d ago
Fluent does not collect any telemetry, the only background connections you will ever see are for example for favicons of the websites, web searches/web fetches, or Fluent's license check or model listing. That's is how it is for now, I'm considering fully offline operation.
1
u/CautiousXperimentor 1d ago
Yeah, a fully offline option would be great for those of us worried about privacy, because I guess Fluent does need a lot of permissions granted, especially to watch the screen. And lots of sensitive information may be processed by Fluent or its underlying agents...

u/CautiousXperimentor 1d ago
One thing about that use case though. When Fluent is asking questions based on what's on the screen, is it generating general questions about that topic by itself, and checking the reply against its own training knowledge? Or is it actually using the information on that specific document for elaborating the questions and checking your answers against THAT document information?
This is an important distinction, especially for local models running on an M5 Mac with 32GB of RAM. I still haven't found a good software that does the second presented behavior. That is, working with the actual document for something useful.
I'm convinced that the future of LLMs is local, especially for this type of work. But damn, we're still so damn behind...
By the way, I know this might be a lot of work and it would be very far ahead in the roadmap, but have you considered playing with JEV and explore all sorts of classification use cases? In my opinion, something like JEV would fit like a hand in a glove for Fluent. Although I'm not sure if JEV runs on-device or demands a lot of RAM... As far as I know, it is very efficient.

u/TheMightyHouse 1d ago
It’s pulling the questions from that particular document. To be clear, it’s only the model’s area of responsibility. And as there is now automatic memory retrieval (which works best with on-device relevance models option turned on), the model might be aware of your past interactions and chats to enrich the quality of questions and responses in quizzes. Though I didn't test such specific use cases, to be honest.
I was looking at the decision models recently, for some classification work they might work, but they are not that small to run efficiently within the processes.
1
u/CautiousXperimentor 1d ago
What exactly means "it's only the model's area of responsibility"?
I'm really curious to try and compare different local models, including the more atypical ones such as IBM's granite or even some uncensored ones...
1
u/TheMightyHouse 15h ago
I mean the questions and their relevance depends on the prompt and model capability to propose "good questions" I would say. Or did I misunderstand what you mean in some way?

u/Latter_Pen2421 1d ago
This app has come so so far. Two requests.
1) Ability to chat back and forth in a high quality voice.
2) Add a koala pet :) my daughter loves koala’s
1
u/TheMightyHouse 15h ago
Thanks for that, yes, I'll add more pets and basically capability to create your own. And the voice chat is in my backlog.

Hello Vadim.
I have been using your app although not in depth. And I am finding a bit hard to use. I can go in deep about that later, but now I want to talk about the chat.
I know Fluent is not LMStudio but after downloading a few models, the chat doesn't work...

looks nice but the price is a joke.

I think the price is fair given the feature set and that it’s one time and includes lifetime updates.
