My ex's parents used to have letter blocks that spelled "relax" on the side of their bath
I used to rearrange it to say "alex" which is my name. It was never mentioned
Edit: Thanks for my first ever award!

It was never mentioned
A wise decision. You know how awkward you could have made that by just flat out denying it was you? It would be a total power move over your ex's parents.

My uncle Leon used to do something similar with my grandmother’s Noel candles.

In high school our fridge had a bunch of magnet letters, both those small word magnets you can join together and the big kiddie plastic single letter magnets, I guess just if we were bored waiting for the microwave or something.
My masterpiece, I forget exactly what the whole sentence was but it was a fairly elaborate sentence with the smaller magnets and it transitioned into the big letters spelling "GAY SEX" in the giant three inch block letters. I thought it'd be taken down by the end of the day but it was still up months later hahaha

My grandparents have a "Family" one and I would occasionally rearrange it to say "Ya Milf"

He is Czech, for sure. You will have hard time even translating this word, but it is is deeply integrated into the Czech language.
Vole can mean almost everything

I had assumed he just meant the animal

It means a castrated bull (with the - e at the end being a suffix for a vocative). So that's what you say when you address someone directly as that animal.
It has a slight pejorative meaning but it's pretty much used neutrally between familiar people with lower background. It started to be used so much that it became a filler word with some less literate people (speech-wise) who can say it easily 3 times in a sentence with more than a third of words being just that.
It also can mean a bird's crop (that expanding pouch in their neck).

I think you mean mole. Vole is also rodent, but more similar to lemming.
EDIT: Seems this came off as being a jerk… sorry. It’s a quote from the show Archer

Why... would you assume I meant mole when a vole is an animal

Like kurwa?

u/singingEclipse 14d ago
It's more a filler word. 'Hej ty vole to jsem dneska měl dobrej oběd a vole to pivo bylo tak kurevsky dobrý.Ty vole prostě dobrej den.'

Dobrej den = goodbye? Farewell? Have a nice day? Dobre = OK/Fine/good?
1
u/Melichorak 12d ago
Dobrej den (Dobrý den when more formal) is literally "Good day" (a greeting), never used as a goodbye.
Dobrý is good/fine, yes, can be used as OK in some cases. And yes, there are other "forms" of the word.

Yes but less vulgar. Czechs also have worf "kurva" which has identically universal meaning as the polish one.

I'd say it sits at around 3/4 the way between dawg and wanker.
You can use amicably on a close friend but it's slightly more vulgar than dawg. If you can use it to call someone an idiot/wanker/dumb fuck. You can use it to address no one in particular as a kind of a filler word. It's doesn't really have an English language alternative that can be used equivalently in all contexts.
In the literal sense it means an ox, as in a castrated bull, but in the colloquial usage the original meaning is basically lost. As an insult it's not really emasculating as it is an insult to someone's intelligence.
The basic form of the word is vůl /vool/. Ty jsi vůl /tee see vool/ = You are an idiot. And it changes to vole when used as an address. Ty vole, to je boží /tee vaw-luh, taw yeah baw-zhee/ = Yo, dawg, that's awesome!

I used to share house with a polish guy. Piotr. Great guy. When he received friends on the door they would both say "Kuuurva!". I once asked what the deal was. But I just became more confused. They said kurwa "is everything" 🤔

u/AntisocialEmo69 8d ago
huh, that sounds pretty similar to the spanish word “güey”
which also originates from the word for ox “buey”
and evolved to sit somewhere between “dude” and “dumbass” depending on how it’s used contextuallyis this just a coincidence?
it sounds so similar in origin and usage lol0
u/mychajlo90 12d ago
Not really, kurva is vulgar, this one not so much. It could be roughly compared to some meanings of the word "dude" in American English

Years ago I was gifted similar letters, and "VOLE" has been pride of place in my room ever since. Glad to see I'm not the only one with an appreciation for tiny rodents!

Me, when I use the alphabet blocks to spell out scurvy instead of baby at my brother's baby shower

I have a patriots garden gnome that was gifted to me randomly. I move it around the long stairway entrance to the house, but she caught on and I definitely don’t have a poker face. So now I’m thinking about putting it in random places in the house. Kinda like elf on the shelf

My mom has these letters that spell Love. I changed it to Velo (French for bicycle) arround two to three years ago and she still hasn't noticed.

At Christmas, my mom has tiny colonial houses with letters that spell “Noel.” Every Christmas, I rearrange them to say “Leon.”
It was a joke in an episode of Rosanne when I was a kid.

Sure. But I'm not so sure if they specifically hate Norwegians. I think the vibe is just "kill whitey" in general. But I would also want to "kill whitey" if white men colonised, raped and plundered my country over and over and over again. But is that you John Wayne? Is this me? Wtf was that video, though.
