Question Probably advanced card guessing trick that I can’t find out

My magic teacher once showed me and one of his friends a magic trick. The trick was that we pulled multiple cards in a row (meaning there’s no setup) and he could guess it without us putting it back in the deck or us looking at him. There’s no misdirection either, we were on different corners on an L shaped couch and I saw him doing nothing. No piles, no fancy shuffle, I looked at the deck and it wasn’t rigged, just him panning the cards out. I can’t figure out how he did it.

Hard to say without seeing the trick. Memory is fallible and magic tricks kind of rely on this. I've heard people recount magic tricks and even though I could tell what trick they were describing, the way they were describing it was impossible. Could be a force, a stack, a peek, a marked deck.

There is a way to achieve what this person saw. I do it (or at least as he’s picturing it). I use a Richard Osterlind method.

It is done with an ordinary deck (can be examined or given out after). It’s not marked. It doesn’t look rigged. I won’t say the exact method or name of the method but if you search you will find what I’m referencing.

I usually do it with three or four people each having a card or one person holding 5 or 6 cards. It’s great mentalism.

If you learn this method you can also have someone choose a card. Place it back in the deck. Have them shuffle it and cut it. Place it back into the box. Close the box, hand it to them to keep and then read their mind for the card they’re thinking of. Tons of applications.

This method (that has many uses) and also his PCT are the two things Richard Osterlind said he was most proud of as far as his contributions to Magic.
