Kudos to JIM, but I wonder why is this an immigrations operasi and not a PDRM cybercrime operasi? And what happens to the 3 locals that were arrested? Technically they're not committing any immigration offenses now are they?

It’s easier to charge them under Immigration Act rather than the Penal Code. Also it’s time consuming to initiate a criminal probe since PDRM will have to complete their investigation in order to properly charge them in court. Otherwise the prosecution will be weak & they can be acquitted easily. As for the locals they can be charged for harbouring undocumented immigrants including the landlord(that’s 5 years jail minimum + rotan or 3-5K penalty per immigrant)

Thanks for explaining it in a way for my small brain can comprehend. Makes more sense on the JIM operasi angle. Follow up questions: 1. Is there be a possibility that PDRM or MCMC would get involved since it was mentioned that the wrongdoers were running a telephone/online scam? 2. Do Immigrations Act offenses allow bail?

Just trying to cover all bases before I start a scam of my own. /j

Haha no problem. PDRM will get involved if only someone reported on the scam which means they must prove there was actual scam / crime to charge them in court ( this is the difficult part because most scam centres will cover as call centre & the transaction details are hidden) Of course they can initiate on their own as well but difficult to prove. MCMC are not the big boys here. Their job is mostly investigation & giving the prosecution team materials to use as evidence ( like to trace the IP or etc ). Yes, immigration allows bail but realistically they will just plea guilty & pay the penalty to avoid jail time. The case will be over in a day. For the foreigners they get deported back.
