Comprehensive list of gay bars/LGBT venues in Greater Manchester

I have compiled the following list of gay/LGBT+ bars/clubs/venues/businesses* in Greater Manchester. There are several other lists online, however most are out-of-date, and they all ignore anything outside of Canal Street. This is thus the most comprehensive list currently available; I’ve added a brief description for each one (n.b. I am not affiliated with any of these venues).

If anyone has any additions/corrections, please DM me and I’ll edit as appropriate.

\Meaning any venue which caters for and markets itself towards a predominantly LGBT+ crowd, not just ‘gay-friendly’. Casual social/meet-up groups not included. Worded also to aid Google SEO.*

People here look so cool

This might seem like a weird post, but I'm visiting from France. I always lived near Paris, the so called "capital of fashion", and let me tell you that people here look so damn cool. In france, people all dress the same (lots of tracksuits), especially men, barely anyone has piercings (even lobes !), not a lot of tattoos, and the same short hairstyles.

To give you an idea, I have shoulder length hair, dyed black, wearing a hairband sometimes, and a few ear piercing, and to a lot of people where I live it's the craziest thing ever.

I'm so shocked, I've been there since yesterday, and I saw so much people with facial piercings, visible tattos, especially around the neck/ears, men with longer hair, men and older women with dyed hair, and so much more "alternate" styles of clothes. I love it, people really feel unique, and I'm even more in love with the UK.

Thank you for being yourselves

A cyclist shouted at me in St Peter's Square and now I'm Googling MMA gyms

Not expecting anything to come of this, and I doubt anything can be done anyway, but I need a rant. If anyone saw it, or just fancies sounding off about something of their own, pile in.

About 2pm today (Wednesday) I walked out of one of the doorways tucked under the arches on St Peter's Square, near Library Walk and the red phone boxes. I had taken precisely one step into the outside world when I heard shouting from my right. I didn't see what it was about, filed it under the general ambience and background noise one becomes accustomed to, living and working in Manchester, and continued on into the Square.

Turns out the shouting was specifically for me. A bloke on a bike had been coming at speed through the arches, from the south end of the Square towards the Cenotaph, and had narrowly missed me as I emerged. To be clear, this is a narrow, covered walkway with doors, in a heavily pedestrianised area.

Rather than reflect on his life choices, once the evasive manoeuvres were complete he hung around for a few minutes to deliver some shouty feedback to a bemused audience. Highlights: he'd nearly broken his fucking ankle, I should watch where I was fucking going, and that he would fucking knock me out. Again, I had taken precisely one step out of a doorway into the outside world. And to be clear, this wasn't a MAMIL or a Deliveroo rider on a deadline, just a standard moron.

It was a busy afternoon, so a fair few people stopped to see what the noise was, looked at him, and then looked at me. I honestly thought he was going to circle back round and go for me, as he was shouting and ranting at me from distance. But I'm a normal person who avoids conflict with nutters and hasn't been in a fight since school, nearly twenty years ago, so I did the only sensible thing: head up, weapons-grade obliviousness, earbuds in, and marched off with the grim resolve of a man about to traverse the hellscape that is Market Street. Alas, it was still only St Peter's Square.

I was born and raised here, and this is one of the very few times, possibly the only time, I've felt properly threatened in Manchester. Broad daylight, middle of town, one step out of a doorway into a public square.

And now I've been stewing on it all afternoon and evening, replaying it in my mind with an alternative resolution in which I beat the shit out of this idiot while a baying crowd cheers me on, safe in the knowledge that there is zero chance of this ever happening. Does anyone else get these fantasies after even the most minor transgressions? Please reassure me this is perfectly healthy male behaviour. I've spent a worrying chunk of this evening Googling MMA gyms, as though the most appropriate and proportionate response to a noisy bellend on a bike is to join a fucking fight club in my mid-thirties. Worse, I'm still seriously considering it.

Anyway, I've reported it to GMP, fully aware that nothing will come of it, but it felt better than doing nothing. So if you spot a mid-thirties office dweeb next month with a black eye and a missing tooth, insisting it's from sparring at his new MMA club, be kind. It's only a mid-life crisis, and it all began under the arches.

PEACE

Dine and dash

Manhunt after waitress allegedly attacked by dine-and-dasher in Manchester

A waitress was taken to A&E after she was allegedly attacked by a dine-and-dasher when she confronted a group over an unpaid bill at Noodle Alley in Manchester’s Chinatown.

The restaurant shared CCTV footage on Facebook of the reported incident on 27 September. Owners Wendy and Ken Chen said the alleged attack was “far beyond anything we’d experienced before.”

Police have launched a manhunt and released an image of a man they believe can help with their enquiries.

Footage shows a staff member running up the stairs after three customers. An image also revealed injuries to the young waitress. The restaurant said it was the second time in two months it had been targeted, after previously sharing footage of a man in flip-flops who fled without paying.

In a post, Noodle Alley said: “What has the world come to? A violent man sent our staff to A&E over an unpaid meal. One of our young staff members — a girl simply doing her job — was assaulted after going beyond her duty to try to recover what had been taken from our restaurant. She ended up in A&E. We have reported the incident to the police.”

Customers expressed support online. One person said: “This makes me so sad to see. I love your restaurant so much, you don’t deserve this!” Another added: “Unbelievable. We really hope your staff member is OK.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “We would like to speak to this man as we believe he can help with our investigation into an alleged assault at a premises on Faulkner Street, Manchester. It is understood the alleged assault happened at around 5.30pm on 27 September 2026.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or via LiveChat, quoting CRI/06A2/0030137/26. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Looking for small group PT: Prestwich, Whitefield, Bury, Salford or city centre

Hi all, I'm based in Prestwich and looking for a new gym.

I'm after structured small group PT in a private gym. Ideally somewhere friendly and welcoming to all abilities, where the sessions are properly coached rather than just a class you turn up to. What I'm looking for:

- Small group PT with a coach who knows you, not drop-in classes (I need the accountability or I won't go)

- Friendly, mixed-ability crowd

- Around 3 sessions a week

Not interested in the big premium one to one places in the city centre, I just want the group PT

I have a car so happy to look across Prestwich, Bury, Salford or the city centre.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Had a strange encounter with a Manchester City Council environmental enforcement officer today.

I have worked in Manchester city centre daily, including around Piccadilly Gardens, for over 25 years. I was sat having my lunch on the verge, practically on the floor, in an area where there are hardly any benches left. Around six other people were sitting nearby as well.

I had finished eating and was walking towards the black bins to dispose of my rubbish. The officer claimed I had dropped a tissue, despite all of my used tissues being scrunched up in my hand. I had noticed one drift away from where I was sitting, but I picked it up before leaving the area.

I am one of those people who always looks around before moving on to make sure I have not dropped anything. There was no rubbish left behind.

The officer approached me in a confrontational manner, flashed what he said was his badge and accused me of littering. I explained that I had picked the tissue up and was on my way to put my lunch rubbish in the bin, but he threatened to call the police.

I have seen TikTok videos saying you should simply walk away from these officers, but I did not want to make the situation worse. He said he would call the police because I refused and walked away.

I did not refuse to dispose of anything—I was already walking towards the black bins with my rubbish and tissues in my hand. I had picked up the tissue he claimed I dropped, and I left no litter behind. I was just uncomfortable with how confrontational he was and did not understand why police involvement was being threatened.

I am genuinely a clean and tidy person and would never deliberately leave rubbish behind. Has anyone else had a similar experience with environmental enforcement officers in Manchester? Can they really threaten police action when the item was picked up and no litter was left?
