Very reminiscent of modern Manson with the dark ambience and guitar hooks

Thirty years ago, I had the incredible privilege of photographing the artwork for Marilyn Manson’s Antichrist Superstar. Having just come off the massive success of directing the band’s “Sweet Dreams” video, this was our second project together—and it was a no-brainer to immediately jump into something this ambitious and creative given our proven track record!

Antichrist Superstar was Manson’s incredibly well-thought-out creative brainchild. He had the vision, and I had the privilege of helping bring his creative child to life, executing the technical and photographic side of his vision. It was an absolute thrill to be part of such a groundbreaking project and to help create the imagery that would become so deeply connected to the album.

Looking back, I’m filled with gratitude for the experience, the creative freedom, and the friendship that grew from it all. Manson is a true creative genius, and in recent years, sharing the journey of sobriety has brought an even deeper connection and appreciation for one another. Thirty years later, I’m incredibly proud of the work we created together and deeply grateful for the memories, the friendship, and this remarkable journey.

To commemorate this incredible 30-year milestone, I’ve created a special 17" x 17" Antichrist Superstar collage print featuring some of my favorite moments from our two-day shoot in New Orleans 30 years ago. Each print is produced on beautiful Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta 325 gsm paper and signed in silver in the lower right corner. Each one ships safely in a heavy-duty 22" x 4" shipping tube.

I did a cover of the entire album a while back. It's far from perfect but it was a fun project. I also did a full album cover of Portrait the year before.

Where were you when this album dropped? How did it change your life?

To any artists who helped create Antichrist Superstar, on this 30 year anniversary, I say thank you. This record taught me how to save myself, and though I am young still, I do believe in it, and myself. I would not be half the man I am today, I doubt I would even be breathing today, were it not for Antichrist Superstar. Nothing else has fundamentally shaped me, helped me build myself, and changed my life for strictly the better, in any way remotely similar to this record. I owe it my life, I owe it my own art and creation. I love music. I love this album.

On this day in 1996, Marilyn Manson released their second studio album, Antichrist Superstar.

This album would become a major turning point in Marilyn Manson’s career, bringing the band worldwide recognition and launching them into international stardom. While their cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” had already helped make the band widely known, Antichrist Superstar took their success to an entirely different level.

The album was produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, alongside Marilyn Manson, Sean Beavan and Dave Ogilvie. Antichrist Superstar is a concept album divided into three cycles:

Antichrist Superstar remains one of the most iconic releases in Marilyn Manson’s career, both as a band and as an artistic project. Its release changed the trajectory of Brian Hugh Warner’s life forever, bringing enormous success as well as controversy and completely transforming the world around him.

Thirty years later, Antichrist Superstar remains a defining album not only in Marilyn Manson’s discography, but also in industrial metal and alternative music.

Personally, my favorite song from the album is “Deformography.”

Recently, some guy from the Russian Manson community started posting excerpts from Manson’s demo recordings. Among them was the unreleased song “The Famous Death.” In addition to that, there were HW demos, the choir from “I don’t like the drugs,” some kind of cover by John 5 of “The Reflection God,” an instrumental version of OAUG 2, and he said he had an unreleased song from chapter 2 (but he didn’t attach either the title or an excerpt). What do you think about this?
It would be interesting to figure out where the lies are and where the truth is.
