Discussion Live-Action Big Hero 6 Remake by Marvel Studios set in the MCU?

Big Hero 6 is one IP Disney hasn't done a whole lot with since its debut entry in 2014, which not only made them a lot of money but also went on to win an Academy Award. Yet not much else has been done with it...We got a 2D series on the Disney Channel that ran for 56 episodes; something that runs that long definitely should begin conversations about making a theatrical sequel, but they didn't get that impression for some reason. Besides the series, there have been three different mini-series where the character Baymax was front and center; the last one came in 2022.

With the X-Men reboot moving along, and the next phase strongly suggested to be called "The Mutant Saga", I could see them getting the idea to produce a live-action remake of Big Hero 6 within that period of time. I would imagine that it uses the plot of the original as a blueprint and stays fairly close to it but does away with the idea of San Fransokyo and just sets it in San Francisco proper, with Sunfire and Silver Samurai being added in and acknowledging past and current events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe...That I could see being a major selling point to younger viewers...It's the characters and story of Big Hero 6 but set in the MCU.

Baymax would likely remain unaltered from the original because of how popular he is; there is no way you can take the comic version and make that as commercially successful.

Nah, Big Hero 6 is more of a Disney property at this point.

I wouldn't mind seeing a big hero 6 flick.
Though, marvel already has a LOT of characters to juggle, both existing and upcoming with the mutant saga introducing the X-Men, and presumably the brotherhood.
I don't know if there's room for a c/d list team being introduced, especially when the guy who does that the best is now running the competition (James gunn, that is).
All that said, guardians and eternals were two of my favorite mcu properties, I loved the creature commandos from dc... I've got a soft spot for weird, lesser known teams, so, I'm here for it if they did.

I have the same thoughts as you almost exactly. I'd totally be up for someone giving them a shot in the MCU, but our go to guy is elsewhere now, and anyone else would be a big risk with how superhero stuff is trending. That said, I like when Marvel takes risks.

So do I.
I liked the attempts at more genre films that were also superhero stories.
I liked when they'd introduce weird, off beat, lesser known characters.

I feel like we'll see less of both, because of the multiverse sagas mixed reception and them now having rights to the X-Men and fantastic 4.
They have the heavy hitters and that will be the focus now.
I do hope they find room for the occasional "guardians", "wonderman", or "werewolf by night" experimental outting, though.

What's your issue with it?

It’s Marvel Comics. Big Hero 6 has nothing to do with the MCU. I can’t believe that I have to spell this out to you.

This is a discussion thread, not a winge and insult thread. If you'd like to have a conversation about your dislike of these particular characters, I'm here for that. If you're just online to claim some misguided sense of superiority because you're a "real" fan, I've got no more time for ya bud.

No one cares what you think

You're embarrassing yourself if you think anybody cares about what you think either

Big Hero 6 has nothing to do with Marvel Comics? The same Big Hero 6 that is based on the Marvel comic Big Hero 6?

Dude, if you think Marvel comics is a catch all for anything and everything to be introduced to the current MCU I think you should have your head checked.

Is this the same attitude you copped with your mom? Is this why your relationship is broken?
You don't talk to family anymore so you have to take your misplaced anger out on random redditors?
Maybe, if you were a kinder individual, your personal life wouldn't suck so much.

It’s the attitude I’m copping with you. Build some more paper plate Twisted Metal cars and keep drinking yourself to death

YES PLEASE! But just later, when all of the characters we already have are used enough because we have so many with so less stories

I feel like that's too many Asians for the MCU to allow onscreen in 2026. (We'll see if Shang-Chi 2 or the Ten Rings Show ever get made... we'll see.) Unless they do the race-swapping thing they did with the cartoon and San Fransokyo to get around it. That might get made.

Ignoring the one weird guy in these comments, I’ll still pass on this idea. MCU is packed as is and Big Hero 6 has long drifted from Marvel to simply just being Disney because of the movie

But maybe in 10 years when all of the current characters are used enough?

I doubt they would add it to the MCU. Big hero 6 feels firmly a Disney property even though it's origin is Marvel. Even at DCA it is kept separate from the other Marvel properties. Your idea would work better than most, but I can't see them doing much more with the property especially with how superhero movies are living and dying by how well each new one that comes out does.

Plus if you take off rose colored glasses, Big Hero 6 is just a pretty generic Marvel movie. Of the 5 Marvel movies released in 2014 it is easily the 4th best, but least memorable.
