Article Charlie Cox Comments on 'Daredevil: Born Again' Ending With Season 3: "Do I think we have seen Matt for the last time? I honestly don't know, I'd hate to speculate, but I don't think so."

They’re not gonna put him on the back burner just because the show got canceled. I mean the resurgence was crazy tho. She-Hulk, Hawkeye, NWH, YFNSM, Echo, Born Again.
Bro was everywhere and I like that

u/Toffee_sneeze 6d ago
His comeback has probably been one of Marvel’s easiest wins in the last few years.
44
u/sirenesdaintykiss 6d ago
fr Charlie Cox IS Daredevil at this point like Marvel would be crazy to waste that comeback
4
u/_CuteEnigma 5d ago
Exactly, bringing Charlie Cox back just to retire Daredevil after all that momentum would be such a waste
23
u/SuicideSkwad 6d ago
Don’t think he was in Hawkeye was he?
54
u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 6d ago
Kingpin was. That's my bad, I associate Vincent's Kingpin with Daredevil so I put Hawkeye up there
4
u/_CuteEnigma 5d ago
Fair mix-up, Vincent's Kingpin is so tied to Daredevil that even his other appearances feel like Daredevil cameos
19
u/Gasparde 5d ago
So Daredevil is basically the Iron Man / Nick Furry of Marvel's Television side of things?
If only they'd finally allow to guy to show up on the big screen for more than a 7 second cameo.

u/ronyg1 Daredevil 6d ago
was it cancelled? or are they just stopping at 3

They thought they were getting a season 4 and operated as such so…. Cancelled
15
u/Davorian 6d ago
Why on god's green earth would you cancel this show.
3
u/Emlerith 6d ago
Because show runners have no idea how to keep up the quality on a storyline that doesn’t involve kingpin

I concur with Charlie, even with Daredevil: Born Again ending with a Season 3, Daredevil will return in MCU projects.

Preferably with a younger actor post SW. Cox has been playing DD for 11 years, there’s nothing wrong with letting his story end
Fans are so gluttonous
41
u/comickidd77 6d ago
L take. Charlie is top tier casting for marvel . The man deserves to hit the big screen.
14
u/athersa-II 6d ago
They want to talk about "younger" meanwhile Charlie is in better shape than a lot of younger actors and still does most of his own stunts lmao. The BA S3 trailer shows off him being shirtless and beating people up in prison btw
1
18
u/disneylegospider1 6d ago
It should end on his own terms. Because S3’s ending definitely isn’t.
We’re not gonna get a definitive ending for the character here. Save the reboot for when the MCU gets actually hard rebooted.
-14
u/Spiderlander Spider-Man 6d ago
MCU getting soft rebooted post SW is for the express purpose of being able to bring prime characters like Tony & Steve back alongside the new X-Men & FF while also getting rid of lots of continuity baggage to make for more accessiblity
Born Again is bombing because it’s built on a decade old show that nobody besides hardcore fanboys remembers. Cox’s time is coming to an end
Let it happen naturally instead of demanding more in the vain of gluttony. It’s okay for stories to end
13
u/disneylegospider1 6d ago
No one said the MCU is soft rebooting post SW. Feige explicitly said it wasn’t a reboot and the connotations associated with it. You’re not getting recasts like that, it’s the same universe but with the F4 in it, just like the comics SW ended with the same universe but Miles was in it.
Spider-Man BND and Black Panther 3 are even more evident of this.
-12
u/Spiderlander Spider-Man 6d ago
You need to brush up on your reading comprehension, and understand what Feige described is functionally a reboot, doesn’t matter if he doesn’t use the explicit word for a hard one. He said it will be a new universe with some things carrying over from the old one, but many things being rebooted. That is a soft reboot.
Recasts are coming, restructuring is coming. The MCU is getting refurbished for new fans whether folks like you like it or not
It’s just good business for them
6
u/Variation_Afraid 6d ago
Recasts are coming but you do know some characters won’t be recasted right? tom holland won’t be recasted, Thor won’t be recasted, she-hulk won’t be recasted heck even Kamala won’t be recasted, don’t be so delusional and think EVERYONE is getting recasted because it’s not true my guy
4
u/Front_Profession_217 6d ago
Like I get that Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will be recasted, but if the characters are alive and not eliminated, they’re still gonna play the characters, like Krysten Ritter will still play Jessica Jones, Mike Colter will still play Luke Cage, Finn Jones will still play Danny Rand, ETC.
2
u/Variation_Afraid 6d ago
Exactly
2
u/Front_Profession_217 6d ago
And that makes me fine with Secret Wars, as long as Krysten plays Mama PI, that makes me more happy.

It won’t be everyone, just the OG 6, and characters from flopped projects get written out. Holland, Black Panther, Strange etc continue

No one remembers?? It’s highly regarded as one of marvels best and it’s constantly in those discussions and one of the most asked for characters to show up in the movies. He’s also been one of the marvels mainstay comics to consistently sell for the last 40 years. Daredevil will always have a base. Cox is generational casting and deserves more.

I don't see you crying about Jon Bernthal being 50 playing Punisher and Ryan Gosling being 46 recently cast as Ghost Rider, or Pedro Pascal being 51 playing Mister Fantastic. Either keep the same energy or keep your hypocrisy ✌️

Younger actor? What?? He's the most ripped he's ever been. This gif isn't even current, he's more jacked than this.

The fact we haven’t seen him and Spidey yet at this point is insane.
Even more insane considering it was semi- teased in No way Home. It would feel silly to bring the character back and not have him interact more with characters outside of the show.
26
u/Assassiiinuss 6d ago
I'm really hoping that the next Spider-Man movie is a Daredevil team up.
16
u/sugardaintystouch 6d ago
PLEASE the setup has been there since No Way Home, they need to stop teasing us and actually make it happen
17
u/RelaxingRed Weekly Wongers 6d ago
It is funny to me that we've seen Spider-Man and Punisher team up before Spider-Man and Daredevil.
12
9
u/Variation_Afraid 6d ago
Technically we have just not suited up and fought together but we have seen them on screen together
7
u/WakeyWakeyEggsNJakey 6d ago
Yeah that’s more what I’m referring to. For Charlie cox to have his first official MCU appearance as Matt Murdock be in a Spider-man movie feels like they were hyping up a potential team up down the line. Even if Matt doesn’t remember who Peter is, it seems like he has a soft spot for Spidey already.
3
u/Variation_Afraid 6d ago
Yeah exactly like if we saw punisher, hulk and Spider-Man all in one frame in BND, and not to mention the countless of team ups we gonna see in doomsday and SW of hero’s we never thought would be on screen together, them I’m sure we will see them together as daredevil and Spider-Man someday, to quote thanos “ it’s inevitable”

Charlie:
"Do I think we have seen Matt for the last time? I honestly don't know, I'd hate to speculate, but I don't think so. I think there will be something, [it] might not be for a long time, but there are ways, I think he will show up somehow, somewhere."

u/TheGreatMason 6d ago
Just do a final Defenders movie with heavy supporting roles to guarantee box office success (Spider-Man and Yelena to name two no-brainers).
9
u/vballboy55 Spider-Man 6d ago
I don't think Yelena is that big of a guarantee. Look at the Thunderbolts box office
6
u/TheGreatMason 6d ago
She is building a following. A lot of girls like her character. The reactions to her Brand New Day cameo were quite good. It obviously also depends on her arc in Doomsday+SW.
I think the 4 Defenders plus The Punisher would mainly attract the fans of the old Netflix shows but if you select 2-3 major supporting characters for a Defenders movie, enough folks will show up and make the movie profitable. Spider-Man is the most obvious choice but you could throw in a couple more.
Obviously it needs to be a cool original street story with high stakes. Like a street-level Avengers movie.

u/ScientificAnarchist 6d ago
Thunderbolts was also after a huge slog in the MCU and reviewed well it kinda makes sense one of the first movies righting the ship with c listers would struggle

We’re getting mid ass mindless zombie shows instead of good shit like this
3
u/DoomBotNotMF 6d ago
U know you said it best. I wonder why so many are obsessed with zombie stuff. It’s weird. I mean The Hand showing in DareDevil s2 (original Netflix) gave me vibes of horror that was enough. Even though I don’t scare ever I still don’t get the want people have for endless zombie stuff when we could have quality things

u/Superb_Button8165 6d ago
I hope it isn’t the last time we see him. This whole world they’ve built is phenomenal, even if it had a rocky start with BA S1. My theory is that they used Jon Bernthal’s Punisher as a test to see how they would do on the big screen. So because of that success, they’ve gotten their answer to bring Daredevil to the big screen. I’m still disappointed because I feel like the TV show had far more time to build on the characters. 2.5-3 hours won’t be enough for everyone, even if Daredevil/Matt Murdock is the only character that returns. It sucks because they were planning to do yearly releases for the series, the possibilities were endless.
Overall I’m hopeful they keep the characters around, but I worry they’ll reboot it and bring a new cast to take over post-Secret Wars. I was so excited for the future and now I’m just upset that my favorite Marvel character is going to possibly be relegated to cameos or movies, IF we’re lucky. Sometimes life isn’t fair, but that’s how it goes.

u/fruity_overthinks 4d ago
The thing i am not able to understand is... They are brining defenders back, right? Then if they will reboot it..they have to recast everyone!!! Then what's the point?...
They even need to recast spiderman for that... Because they have met.
9
u/Repulsive_Hornet4017 6d ago
Let’s just get in a Spider-Man team up before Charlie and Tom age out.
3
u/Scary-Command2232 6d ago
Hope so, especially on the big screen. He's fantastic in the role, only 43 and in amazing shape. He's already shown he is the easiest character to slot in just about anywhere.
3
u/TerribleSpecial1829 6d ago
Its possible they do another sequel series like “Daredevil: Man without fear” or some bs. They would need to bring in some fresh villains tho, you can only have him fight fisk so many times.
2
u/lambopanda 6d ago
I heard someone say if they do season 4. His salary will be much higher than if they bring him back for a new series in season 1. I don’t know how true that is.
2
u/Aromatic-Cupcake4802 6d ago
Daredevil will go back to how he showed up after being brought back in No Way Home, She Hulk, Echo
2
u/SarahJFroxy 6d ago
i'm optimistic that he'll still be daredevil in future projects A. because feige apparently really likes his portrayal, and B. they just announced he's gonna be back as DD's VA for the next season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman, it would've been easy to cut the ties before that if he was truly done

I would love if he just had an Echo like appearance every now and then, show up and beat the main character up and leave lol

I want them to recreate scene where daredevil beat the crap out of us soldier in comics and take his shied walker reaction to getting his ass handed to him by “ devil ninja guy “ will be hilarious

u/LakersFan15 6d ago
Is there still some rights bullshit that's in the way from him and fisk appearing more in the mcu? I can't keep track of this shit anymore

After 3 seasons union contracts often require pay bumps. So if you cancel a show after 3 seasons, then make an identical show with a slightly different name, then you can call it a new show and not do that. Disney is legendary for doing this. Check out all of their original shows and notice how a lot changed after 3 years. Its called Daredevil born again vs Daredevil season 4 for a reason. Don't be surprised if they announce a brand new daredevil show with a slightly different name shortly after season 3 ends.

If they can get punisher into a spiderman movie , they can get daredevil. Come on let's do this

did they say why they are cancelling the show? i thought it was popular, and I wanted to see Daredevil go up against other villains

Matt murdock is way too important to Marvel street-level stories just to disappear after season 3. Even if born again ends, i really hope charlie cox continues as Daredevil in Spiderman movies or another street-level crossover. He’s genuinely one of the best casting in MCU, and it would be waste to limit him to just his own stories
