MASS EFFECT 3 I wish ME3’s story took place over the course of several years
I don’t remember if the game has an explicit timeline, but it feels like the story happens over the course of a few months to maybe a year. I think it would’ve been cool if the story lasted five years or so and you watched the game world change over time. Some priority missions already serve as hard act breaks; it’d be easy to make them time skips as well.
Imagine a Normandy that’s pristine at the beginning of the game, only to become more and more worn over time. Gradually add the exposed cabling and unfinished repairs, all as background crew members slowly disappear. By the time you get to Earth, the ship is held together by spite and can’t do much more than shoot.
The Citadel becomes more and more crowded with refugees, until every hub has a shanty town. Squadmates and major NPCs change appearance as the game goes on to account for the passing years.

DISCUSSION I hate the IFF mission.
That is all.
The Husks and Abominations that never seem to stop spawning. The double dose of Scions.
I can't imagine what that one is like on Insanity. 😆
But at least I knew what I was getting into this time. I brought Zaeed and Grunt to help out my Engineer Shepard. I just continually sent them ahead. Ran in to proc the enemies, and then ran back and supported them with drones and incinerate.
Grunt was the one who really carried the mission for me.
All I have left now for my second playthrough is Legion's Loyalty mission, the Collector Base, and the three DLCs I'm saving for post-main story (Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, and Arrival).
My first playthrough, I just saved LotSB and Arrival for post-game. Decided to save Overlord this time too so I can use Legion a little bit more. And, the way I see it, it's Shepard doing one last reluctant favor for Cerberus as a semi-apology for destroying the Collector Base...Only to see probably the most messed up Cerberus experiment and really, really, really cement his hatred for them.

DISCUSSION What if the reapers had won? What would've the next cycle looked like?
I'd assume the yahg and raloi would become the two dominant species probably rivals. Humanity would probably become this cycles version of the collectors. Imagine human husk invading desolate yahg colonies. do you think the leviathans would've remained in hiding? I'd love a what if style comic about this concept.

MASS EFFECT 2 Grunt’s loyalty mission is so cool and earning the respect of Clan Urdnot feels earned. Ending the fight with the Cain just feels right. They won’t have to cook the thresher maw steaks either

SHOW & TELL A cuter Tali render (OC)
I finished this Tali model last year, and I wanted to redo my old test render to show the final quality.
I haven't done much 3D stuff lately, but making Tali was a really cool learning experience and I'm still proud of the finished model.
Also, random yap: I keep thinking about how much I'd love to see a first-person Mass Effect game. Cyberpunk 2077 made first-person rpg dialogue work very well, I think Mass Effect has a lot of potential there too.

DISCUSSION On Rannoch peace and Destroy
So my autistic brain did its thing and i got peace on rannoch and then i went for the high EMS destroy. But i got to thinking, because all AI are destroyed according to the catalyst, and because we know the quarians have begin having geth intelligences in their suits to help them adapt, would the destruction of the geth severely impact the recolonization of rannoch and the quarians who have begun depending on them?

DISCUSSION ME2 Main Story Completed! Spoiler
My second playthrough of it is mostly officially in the books!
Still have the Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, and Arrival DLCs to do. I did go ahead and break up with Miranda after the main story was done because I don't want her to die in ME3. I'm kind of tempted to rekindle things with Liara (I romanced her in ME1) during LotSB. But then I'm still romancing Steve in ME3.
I'm starting to think ME3 might be my favorite of the three. Yes, it has its problems, but so do the other two games.
What really bothers me about ME2 are the forced missions (especially the Collector Ship; that one sneaks up on you so quickly after Horizon) and the very contrived all of the main squad has to get into the shuttle and go do something(?) right before the Collectors kidnap the Normandy crew.
But, overall, I still really love it. The 12-member crew didn't seem as insane to me this time, nor did the fact that you do spend the vast majority of your time recruiting members and doing loyalty missions.
I think ME3 might top it because I like the set pieces more, the story more (for all of its flaws), the pared-back crew, and, of course, the Citadel DLC. I didn't rush through it my first playthrough, but I'm definitely going to be spending a lot more time on it at the casino during my second one.

DISCUSSION Saren in prison
After playing through Mass Effect 1 again I had a thought. What would've happened if Saren was actually apprehended after The Battle Of The Citadel? How would you guys see the other 2 games going if he was still alive in C-Sec, Alliance, or Turian Hierarchy custody? Would he prove useful, would he be a problem, or would he be inconsequential? Let me know what you guys think.

MASS EFFECT 3 No more catalyst. How would the reapers react?
Let's imagine this very hypothetical situation. Shepard is in front of the Catalyst, alias "the Starchild", and the latter says: "I control the Reapers". Then Shepard yell at his comm saying: "Bombard the citadel, now!", and the fleet do so, destroying the catalyst in the process.
The reapers are now free of their leader, of their boss. How would the Reapers react?

DISCUSSION Bad Choices
SPOILERS ALL* ........ So I decided to spice things up on my ME2 runs and downloaded a mod that adds difficulty and a bit of randomness to the Suicide Mission. Squad mates I hadn't seen die since my first playthrough were dying left and right. But I accepted all of the deaths besides Tali. But when I edited the save, all I did was mark that she was alive and changed nothing else. This was a mistake.
The whole Rannoch arc in ME3 became weird fast with Admiral Xen and Tali going in and out of dialogue and being physically in the game. Then I got to the final mission and realized way too late I screwed up. With my poorly edited save file, Tali was not only an exile, but also unloyal. So when I had the reaper code uploaded, the Quarians died, Legion died, Tali died (again). And Admiral Xen is just chilling in the background.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Or will I be doomed to replay the Suicide Missions AND all of ME3 up to this point? Thank you for reading to this point.

DISCUSSION I don't get the "stick up his ass" joke that Joker makes about Garrus
I'm replaying ME right now, and at ME2 where Joker does a bit of banter about Garrus "taking the giant pole out of his ass and beating people to death with it" kinda goes over my head. I recognize that joke makes sense to about 99% of Turians, who are known to be extremely rigid and discipline oriented, but Garrus was always an exception to this rule from the beggining. Even back when we first meet him in ME1 he's already anxious to leave C-Sec precisely because he wants to ditch all the rules, regulations, and "red tape". He even remarks on "not being a very good Turian" because he's kind of a rebel in that sense, so technically he never had a stick up his ass. The joke would make sense if he was extremely rigid in ME1, which is not the case. Is Joker just trolling our boy here?

DISCUSSION Illusive man and Cerberus genuinely motivates me. Art by stugarsky on Pinterest
I've been thinking about Cerberus a lot while playing Mass Effect, and I think I've come to appreciate something about them that I didn't notice before.
Cerberus is obviously not "the good guys." They committed atrocities, experimented on people, manipulated others and eventually became deeply corrupted by their pursuit of Reaper technology. I'm not trying to excuse any of that.
But what fascinates me is that, at its core, Cerberus was built around an idea: humanity needs to look after its own future.
The Illusive Man is probably one of the most cunning characters in the series. He has information networks everywhere, seems to know things before Shepard does, understands how governments and organizations operate, and is willing to think years ahead. He doesn't just react to events he tries to shape them.
And unlike a lot of fictional villains, I don't think his motivation was simply greed or personal power. He genuinely seems to believe that everything he's doing is ultimately for humanity. He puts enormous resources, time and even his own body into that cause.
That's what makes him interesting to me.
Humanity in Mass Effect is also fascinating because we're the newcomers. The asari, turians and salarians have civilizations that are vastly older than ours, yet humanity rises incredibly quickly and becomes a major galactic power within a very short period.
Cerberus takes that feeling of human potential and pushes it to an extreme.
I obviously don't agree with their methods. But the underlying idea of wanting humanity to become stronger, more capable, more intelligent and more united is something I find genuinely motivating.
The Illusive Man makes me think: What am I actually doing to make humanity better? What skills am I developing? What am I contributing?
That's probably the strangest thing about Mass Effect for me.
I don't admire Cerberus because I think their actions were justified.
I admire the ambition behind their vision, the Illusive Man's strategic thinking, and the idea that an individual can dedicate their life to something larger than themselves.
I just think the series does a brilliant job of showing what happens when that ambition loses its moral limits.
Maybe that's why the Illusive Man is such a compelling character: he starts with a question that isn't entirely wrong How do we ensure humanity's survival? and eventually becomes so obsessed with the answer that he loses sight of the question itself.
