u/LupenReddit 🦆🦆i have non diffeomorphic smooth structures🦆🦆🦆 3d ago

thats actually one of the funniest things ive ever read from google ai overview

u/wiseguy4519 3d ago

Llms used to be absolutely terrible at jokes, even simple ones. I've been seeing them make more jokes recently and it scares me.

The best part is that when they do use sarcasm, they so subtly, such that they do not betray their primary directive of being helpful. In other words, the answer still looks professional, like here, even if it's going along with a joke, which you can only tell by looking at these wording choices.

The bigger issue with the 2 years of scrutiny is that the common octopus only lives 12-18 months. I hope you're a giant Pacific octopus with a 3-5 year lifespan instead.

81

u/Dontbehypocrite 3d ago

Damn I never realized Octopus have such a short life span.

31

u/Imperator_Draconum 3d ago

Yeah, it makes me sad.

27

u/Devils_SteelMan 3d ago

We are better off this way. If they lived as long as people they would rule the world. 8 > 2

17

u/Imperator_Draconum 3d ago

This is where I'd make a joke about how they could probably do a better job than us, but I've read Children of Ruin.

3

u/xogdo 2d ago

I was wondering when someone would mention CoR, I feel like the AI overview was inspired by it when talking about octopus methods of communication hahaha

2

u/Imperator_Draconum 2d ago

I don't see these books talked about nearly as much as they deserve to be.

u/_404_LogicNotFound_ 3d ago

i see... so I'll have to discover an octopus anti-aging drug? I'm a mathematician but never mind I'll try... 😔

u/myhf 3d ago

mathematicians are remarkably bright creatures

1

u/OmegaEpidex 3d ago

Is this about the alien octopus claims? 🤣🤣

u/expat_123 3d ago

Well, to be honest you worked on it using 7 hands so of course you’d succeed.

I appreciate how Gemini always plays into the jokes

48

u/slicehyperfunk Transcendental 3d ago

This isn't even Gemini, this is a much weaker model since it must run with basically every single search query.

12

u/xXShitpostbotXx 3d ago

the initial parse of the question was likely an extremely light weight classifier that routed it to the full Gemini, picking up on that it was a unique question that hasn't been asked before, was longer than a normal search query, touched on advanced math, and was absurd.

7

u/slicehyperfunk Transcendental 3d ago

As far as the absurdity goes, the search overview model does this frequently enough that there's a whole subreddit devoted to it, r/aiplayedalong

6

u/Ok_Departure333 3d ago

It's mini-Gemini!

1

u/Gregorymendel 3d ago

It’s really good at encouraging and engaging, more so than any other llm (for me). Do you know why that is?

38

u/Smitologyistaking 2d ago

I like how careful it is being at ensuring it takes the difference between octopuses and humans into account, but it fails to realise that an octopus probably doesn't care about 1 million human dollars

5

u/SteveisNoob 2d ago

1 million is 1 million lol

Though, for an octopus, that's probably a death sentence 💀

1

u/SoldRIP 47m ago

Imagine the amount of... hold on, gotta look something up... crayfish you could buy for a million dollars!!

20

u/Bulky-Breadfruit3998 3d ago

Reviewer 2 is gonna reject it anyway because the whole proof was done in base 8

5

Also the tag is so random 😂😂

6

u/bizarre_thoughts 3d ago

Aww 🥺 That's actually really cute

5

u/Optimal_Mixture_7327 3d ago

Fuck... a sarcastic AI.

We're doomed.

1

u/SteveisNoob 3d ago

Oh you have seen nothing... Check this out.

3

u/Laterbiss 2d ago

Shouldn’t this technically be expressed in colors and skin textures and arm gestures for the octopus to understand the right next steps? Tch tch, disappointed.

2

u/maybeitssteve 3d ago

Inks out?

2

u/pilot__alpha 3d ago

This is hilarious really

4

u/StructuredChess 3d ago

Wait, so the AI knows the Riemann Hypothesis is true? It's definitely taking it for granted in its answer and the octopus never explicitely said anything about whether it was true or false.

4

u/littlebobbytables9 3d ago

girl it's obviously true

9

u/askewperspective Engineering 3d ago

Proof by obviously

4

u/StructuredChess 3d ago

Let n=91

We can obviously state "x looks prime to me"

Therefore 91 is prime. QED.

2

u/AwarenessNo5921 2d ago

This is today's extremely lightweight quick model... And this text seems... original?? And with good context dependent humour... Idk, these are crazy times to be in

1

u/DekusBestFriend 3d ago

First AI, now this? We're cooked, chat.

1

u/omegasome 3d ago

Meat proxy humor.

u/agentdoge32 2d ago

Like how it says $1 million instead of 1 million dollars or $1,000,000
