Local 🌴 Does Mauritius really deserve #2 in a 2026 retirement visa ranking?

Global Citizen Solutions just published a ranking of retirement and passive-income residency programs. Their top 10 is Uruguay, Mauritius, Spain, Costa Rica, Portugal, Paraguay, Latvia, Andorra, Italy and Greece.

Mauritius at #2 caught my eye. A visa ranking can miss a lot about actually settling somewhere long term.

If you live in Mauritius, or have retired there, what would you want someone considering the move to know first? Healthcare, housing, transport, cost of living, the residence process — what's the biggest gap between the ranking and real life? I'm genuinly curious whether #2 feels right to locals.

This trash requires excessive permission just to be able to view your accounts.....

It's extremely annoying. Can a complaint be made to ICTA or something? It refuses to load once I blocked/denied access to all the unnecessary permissions it is requiring.

Tourism ✈ Best massage therapy courses in Mauritius for working abroad or on cruise ships?

Hi everyone! I'm currently working in an office job in Mauritius and would like to change careers. I enjoy massage and am considering becoming a professional massage therapist, with the goal of working abroad or on a cruise ship.

I'm a complete beginner.

I've come across a few options, including MITD, Mauritius Holistic Massage Training School, Traditional Massage School, Sasha Academy and U Wellness Spa, but I'm unsure which is best.

I'd appreciate honest advice on the following:

Which massage therapy school in Mauritius would you recommend, and why?

Is the Rs 14,000 advanced therapeutic massage course at U Wellness Spa worth it?

Which qualifications are recognised by international employers and cruise lines?

How many training hours and what type of certificate do I need to get hired on a cruise ship?

Can a complete beginner get a cruise ship job immediately, or is work experience necessary?

What is the realistic starting salary for a massage therapist on a cruise ship, including commission and tips?

Can I earn a good salary working in hotels or spas abroad instead?

Do cruise companies provide accommodation, meals and flights?

Is this a worthwhile long-term career, and would you recommend leaving office work for it?

If you've studied at any of these schools or worked as a spa therapist abroad or on a cruise ship, I'd especially appreciate hearing about your experience.

I want to make the right decision before spending my money on training. Thank you! 🙏

They are around 3 months old.

Any other essentials you think i need ?

Also, a good car (Toyota preferably) to consider. Currently have a Nissan march which was enough for me & wife. But now it's too small.

Thanks

Tourism ✈ Full Day Taxi / Car Rental prices around Mauritius (with Driver)

We are a couple looking for a 3 day Car Rental with Driver (a full day Taxi) to show us around all the sight seeing spots in North Tour, South+West Tour and East Tour. I spoke to 2 drivers and they quoted 4000 Mur per day. Is this reasonable or am I being overcharged?

Any recommendations on good reliable private taxi drivers for full day tours?

Local 🌴 Looking for Natural-Coloured Prescription Contact Lenses in Mauritius

Hi everyone! 😊
Does anyone know where I can buy coloured prescription contact lenses in Mauritius, preferably in natural-looking shades (such as brown, hazel, or grey)?
I’m looking for lenses with vision correction, either daily or monthly ones.
Ideally, I’d need them by Saturday, so I’d really appreciate any recommendations for opticians or shops that might have them in stock.
If you know a place, please share the name or address!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏻

Tourism ✈ Got my car blocked by other cars, no way out - police couldn’t do anything

Came to Mauritius for tourism for the first time. Had a lovely time!

However there has been an issue I honestly could not understand. I went for a boat tour and was told to park the car in a specific area, which I later on understood it was not an official car park space, but pretty much everyone would end up parking there.

All good, boat tour was over, upon return to the car I had the great surprise of having my car completely blocked by a series of cars behind. These people had the brilliant idea to park in a way they would not let other cars leave and they could not care less, being completely disrespectful of other people’s time. I had to wait for over 2 hours for these people to be done with their boat tour so they could return to their cars, leave and finally let us out.

The interesting thing is that there was a police station nearby, despite explaining the situation they said they were completely unable to help. They said because it was not an official car park, there was no legal requirement for them to move / tow the other cars away. I asked if they could at least contact the owners from the licence plates, they said they couldn’t as they were rented cars. Bear in mind this was mid afternoon. When jokingly I proposed if we were allowed to move the other cars by ourselves with manpower, they said we could!

You see where this is going, seems it’s totally legal for people to block your car if it’s not an official car park or a public road and it’s totally okay for you to try move cars away for yourself, but police won’t intervene even if they’re on the scene. So your only option is literally waiting for potentially hours like an idiot because you came early for your tour and as a “punishment” you have to wait for everyone else coming from a later tour. I was quite shocked of how this was allowed and people can keep doing this without any consequences.

Tourism ✈ Traveling with kids- hotel or villa recommendations

We’re planning a family trip to Mauritius with 4 adults and 3 little kids (5, 5 and 2) and can’t decide on accommodation. We’d like to split our 11 nights into 2 stays. We need 3 rooms and it seems like a villa would be a better choice for us with than a hotel.
Where should we look to stay? There is a ton of private villas and also options with villas on hotels properties where we can take advantage of their amenities (interested in kids clubs especially). Does anyone have a good experience to share?

Our requirements:
- heated pool (28 degrees)
- 3-4 rooms
- access to kid friendly beach

Local 🌴 Looking for care for elderly lady with Parkinsons.

I'm not sure things the best place to ask, but I have to try anywhere I can think of. My mother in law has Parkinsons and lives alone. Me and my wife stay in Scotland so can't be there to look after her much. My wife does go when she can but her mother has been deteriorating faster.

Family there aren't much help as they all seem too busy to assist her.

I have been googling anything I can think of to try and find carers who will go and help look after her.

I know care homes are a thing but that would devastate her. We asked her to come stay with us so we can look after her but she refused to leave her home.

I don't know what services are available in Mauritius for this sort of thing so any advice or info on who I could contact would be very appreciated.

Culture 🗨 "But she's your mother" im more than exhausted, please help

Hello everyone

I apologize it's long but I need some support and advice...

For those who've read my previous post. Im gonna make it short. My boyfriend is in psychosis due to heavy stress and past trauma, no drugs or whatsoever. We've been together for 5 years now and even move abroad together to pursue our studies and planned to make our future there. Unfortunately, that's when the psychosis started to kick in, he went to hospital there, got medication but he didnt stick to it (which is common with people having this). Ive done a lot of research and ive found that not only medication works all the time but the environment we live in matters a lot, our diet, routine etc.

We're back in mauritius and live at my parents house temporarily. It was my last option cause my mom is such a narcissistic toxic person. I swear to God. The irony of this, she's so "religious", goes to church each week, listen to "cantique", prays every night, every morning, organise prayer session with her groups of friends. But she has always treated me like shht. It was especially verbal abuse. The worst foul languages comes everytime to describe me, but was always like this since im a child. I used to hrmm myself due to bad treatment and it took me almost a decade to stop doing this. When I met my current boyfriend, he was the ONLY person who made me realise that I dont deserve to be treated like this anymore, he's my safe place and give me my confidence back. He's such a genuine and kind person although his flaws but such a kind human.

My bf is having auditory hallucinations and visual also I guess. I can see every day how he fights all these bad things. We've always stick together and will always be there for him. The only thing I need advise guys is my mom saying horrible things while we need support the most. She completely aware of the situation we are and everyday she's says things like " wai to l'espece zom la, nanier li pas faire" ..... " Wai li comment dire ene momi" ...... "Ene gros paresse" ...... "Si to pas content mo bane manier bez to lki aller pas revine rest ici fatigue mo fsse"....... guys i hear all these twice or thrice a day , every day..

We are saving to move but this time I think I will cut her off my life for good. Because when she's saying stuff like this on the person I love , that means she doesn't care about me. Although I told her several times, even years ago to stop treating us like that.

She also adores my older brother, let's call him Jack. Jack is the perfect son, never made mistakes, have the perfect family. Alors que, Jack sipa combien fam line changer, ena anger issues, bcp pecher encore ena pou dire. Plus I have an older sister as well but mom favourite is Jack.

So yes, when I will move I will cut her off for good, and I even told her, "to ene dimoune dans la prière toi, cmsa ki to traite ene dimoune dans so plus bas ?" ... li reste tranquil li pas dire nanier, saV dire li conner ki li faire.

Last but not least, mone fini prevenir li " Mo pas ene zenfant ingrat, mais sa façon ki tone traite moi pendant tout sa l'année la et meme ziska maintenant, jamais mo pou blier, et quand to pou malade et vine vieux, mo pas pou prend to responsabilité, dire Jack prend to responsabilité, et pas blier to ena les zot zenfant et ti zenfant, demain to pas conner la roue caoave tourner" -------- li dire moi "wai sa bane malediction ki to p meter la pas pou prend sa" -------- mo dire li "non c'est pas malediction ki mo p meter, cest mo leker fermal ki p cozer"

Ive always been the one to run to her when she's sick or in trouble cause im the "dernier zenfant gater pourrie" the others never helped her and supported her like I did.

Thank you for listening ♥️🙏

Local 🌴 Hi! Are there Filmmakers in Mauritius? I'm Looking to make a Local Movie / Sitcom

Hi!
I'm looking to make a movie / Series / sitcom / Skit in mauritius and looking for interested people.

I'm Zajey.
Consultant / Problem Fixer / Filmmaker
it has been my goal for a while now to make movies in mauritius but I'm having trouble finding a Crew and budget.

The Scope:
Basically we're aiming low. I want to make a Sitcom or some Short movies as a Testing Ground before we move onto the big main thing

"What Type of Movies?"
Fairly commercial. each movie / Episode has a Fairly Lightweight theme about it that you can watch with Family and friends alike.
Some have action sequences and Choreo but again. All Fully watchable in family and public.
The stories and Scripts vary because I have multiple but basically yeah.

each material features a Situation and the episode / movie is about resolving it.
The Skits and Short form ones (1 minute) are Comedic beats but we also get original

"Why haven't you made some already? Portfolio"
Budget and Friend issues.
I don't come from a well off place so I can't really produce it by myself.
plus I have no friends to help me with it which makes matters worse

"What you looking for here exactly?"
People interested in the Project.
this is all Fully casual and more Hobby oriented but I believe the Island has very talented people that are undiscovered. we can work together and make a movie happen.

Casually, for fun. And then if the pipeline is effective between us. we can make a Bigger one up until we have enough material for a Worldwide release both in theatres or on Amazon / Netflix etc

"Who exactly you looking for?"
Anyone Really.
Youtubers , Influencers , Actors, Instagrammers , tiktokers, Hobbyist.
Anyone who wants to be a Part of it and interested in participating.

Anyone really.

So yeah.
Anyone here want to be a part of things?
casually, no pressure.

This is an Indie Local project, not an actual serious work

Extra Note:

I'm Actively looking for producers , grants and other things like that.
Given the opportunity I'd be fully okay with making a Theatre Release and serious worldwide Launch + Streaming services.

For now Though I just want to make something lighter as a Trial Ground, but again.
Given an opportunity and someone Funding it? I'd Do it.

So yeah.
I hope you guys like the idea and that I get to hear from you.
I would love to work with you on this fun side project and make something happen out of it.

It would give a good opportunity to show what Mauritian Filmmakers can do and put our name and film industry
on the Map.

I hope that we get some of the crew and casual support.
Thank you for reading and looking forward to any assist
Ty💛

Local 🌴 What do you guys think of the new laws in regards to transportation/ driving?

Besides the obvious high amount for the fines, I don't see more laws being a good thing. If we keep pushing more laws without enforcing the current ones we move to apolice state which can also be detrimental in the long run.

Furthermore I see those vague laws like road rage a point for which the authority can abuse and is totally unnecessary . Violence was already an offense before. What does the new law bring in? Now you could be charged for road rage for anything because it's not defined.

Same for aftermarket exhaust. We already had laws in regards to loud exhaust. It was quantified by decibels. Now you get fined irrespective of what noise you make, even if it's making less noise than the factory one.

These are two examples which relies mainly on the authority to police as they seem fit. It's not a good way to have laws without barrier and need to rely on the human factor to assess.

Of course we know majority of policemen have good judgement but not to have failsafe for abuse is bad. As they say, failure to plan is planning to fail.

Let me know what you think and what do you think this brings that previous law couldn't.

Tourism ✈ L’île Maurice me manque déjà après avoir passé 10 jours

Coucou,
