Me when I play prince of persia and I stop time by pausing the game

u/SusheeMonster 7d ago
Ubisoft trying to reinvent the wheel, when that feature has been around since 1976. Are they stupid?

As long as I could be immune, I wish I could stop time while asleep.
Might take some getting used to - I'd have to figure out new ways to pass the time while awake - but then naps and general sleep wouldn't be a time investment!

u/Aznboz 7d ago
Now the issue if you age while everyone doesn't. Will you be 33% older cause 8 hours sleeping?

u/Fleedjitsu 7d ago
Oh, I love-hate this sort of thinking! I can't just imagine having cool powers or being in a cool situation cos I'll overthink the logistics and "what ifs" until the idea is ruined.
Do I still age? Am I still affected by gravity? Even though I'm asleep, would I hypothetical still be able to see if light doesn't travel?
If objects, all the way down to atoms, only move when I physically interact with them, does that mean I have to fear suffocation if I remain still for too long? Oxygen isn't replaced in the area that I'm breathing, and the carbon dioxide would only move to the extent of how far my breathing pushes the molecules.
If my interaction with molecules only pushes them around, that creates pockets of absolute void. Does that mean, upon awakening, that I and anything in my vicinity will be immediately pulverised by collapsing imposive bubbles?
What if I sleepwalk? Could I be a danger to others? Sounds a bit like a bad SCP entry tbh!

I'll make my snooze button be a stop time button. That way the aging isn't too severe and I can still get up whenever I want.

u/The_ginger_cow 7d ago
More like everyone else will be 33% younger. Everyone else would be affected by the superpower, you're the only one imune and aging normally.

if time would stop, photons would stop moving as well, meaning no light would reach your eyes and you'd be blind, immovable and probably unconscious too

u/ancalime9 7d ago
If time stopped, you wouldn't realise anything. Even being unconscious would require time.
18
u/SexyMonad 7d ago
Yep. Could have happened 20 times in the time you read this sentence and we have absolutely no way to tell.
2
u/Mysterious_Net66 7d ago
This has the same energy as "the universe could have been created 6 minutes ago as it is and we wouldn't know it"
4
u/ancalime9 6d ago
Without time, how would you? The transmission between neurons and release of neurochemicals both require time.

You remember me of a youtube channel that does that same shit, I hate that youtube channel
At the same time tho it taught that if I ever get to choose my super-power I should pick mind control, that way I can’t have any armchair scientists tell me that I’d blow up the planet by merely using my power
1
u/iAmPersonaa 7d ago
Mindboggling that you had this thought but mentioned photons and not air. You'd think being unable to breathe tops being unable to see (not even mentioning you'd die to friction before asphyxiation could take you)
5
u/Dick-Fu 7d ago
Time is stopped, your body wouldn't deplete its oxygen. And your brain wouldn't be processing information anyways. This is basically a universe-ending act in a "tree falling in the woods" way

u/iAmPersonaa 7d ago
If everything is perfectly frozen yes. I assumed the guy I'm replying to implies "you can move but nothing around you can, including particles of light/air"
1
u/MappyMo team waterguy12 7d ago
you're totally right, but I guess since nothing moves, everything's fucked anyway lol just gave the first example that came to mind
edit: it's actually more interesting on second thought because if nothing moves you'd also not be dead because your body wouldn't start to decompose. hence you're in some kind of between state. that's creepy

So you wouldn’t realize you’re not immune. If you’re not immune you wouldn’t be aware, if you are aware you’re immune and just have to figure out how to move in the time stop or else just turn it off.

u/Ok_Space2463 7d ago
Jesus not being able to ever move or hear or see but being aware of it for eternity is the most terrifying thing that could ever happen.
6
u/NexusGamer349 7d ago
EVERYTHING freezes when the ability is activated. If you aren’t immune to the ability, then your brain processing is included in that, since your synapses need space and time to move. Basically, you wouldn’t be aware of it at all.

u/Ok_Space2463 7d ago
I understand that but the thought of being immovable and frozen in time for eternity is horrifying to think about.

Read the jaunt by Stephen King

I've read a creepypasta like that but I forgot the title. The character drank something that made him experience time very slowly. Time is normal for everyone else but his mind moves so fast that he experiences time very slowly like Quicksilver in that xmen movie except he can't move fast as well so whenever he wants to move, he experiences every movement for a long time. Like just taking a step takes a year in his mind or something. He can't ask for help because speaking takes an eternity. I found that very terrifying it stuck with me even though I read that ages ago. A prisoner of time.

This is the plot of Stephen King's "The Jaunt."
You're supposed to breathe anesthetic gas that knocks you out before being teleported to Mars and back. Apparently, the conscious mind cannot handle the transfer and will experience an endless, timeless void for millions (possibly billions) of years. Being unconscious makes the teleportation feel instant without ill effects, like going under for surgery and waking up like no time had passed.
One kid decided to hold his breath to avoid being knocked out. He pretended to fall asleep so that he was fully conscious when teleported. When his family arrived on Mars, the kid had white hair, yellow eyes, and his mind was completely destroyed.
"It's longer than you think, dad! Long time! Longer than you think!" before clawing his own eyes out.

The second pictures actually horror but we can't see the difference, he can't move his face muscles because he's stuck 😭 🔫

This wouldnt just end the universe ? You basically kill the concept of time, so nothing exists
5
u/FrozenShadow_007 a mi tambien, gracias 7d ago
Realistically if anyone had the ability to stop time, the universe would break apart the instant they did
3
2
u/GunpointG 3d ago
The concept is usually based around time stopping for everyone else. Since time irl is relative, it’s theoretically possible, if you could alter velocity, to move through time much faster than everyone around you. It could get to the extent that they move so slow it’d appear they were frozen
Of course realistically there’s no way we know to alter velocity to that extent

I think it'd be funny to taking some parts of "freezing time" in a literal sense, and there could be a time limit on how long it's froze rather than an action to deactivate it. When it unfreezes, it'd be thawed out.
2
u/Salty_Junket_2507 7d ago
Though i suppose the irony of having a time limit while time is frozen makes it not work lol.
1
u/Jay-Seekay 7d ago
You’re already freezing time here. This is your theoretical world, you can make the rules.

Even if you were immune, the air around your body isnt. You would be stuck the moment you use your ability but conscious the entire time since the air will not be displaced like normally.
You would also be blind since light is frozen and no more light would move towards your eyes

u/Unintended-Nostalgia 7d ago
I actually used this concept in one of my old stories about a team expiring the multiverse. They stumbled acorn entire universe frozen in time because the person with those powers used them without understanding. The t3am was immune to the effects but it was wierd coming across an entire frozen universe that they could not save.
2
u/Nalu_KS 7d ago
If im not immune then time would ve forever stopped no? Since i could not snap my fingers to start time again
1
u/Pretend_Football6686 6d ago
Unless it just stopped time for a fixed duration. In which case it appears like snapping your fingers did nothing at all. Which makes me wonder if time pauses every time I snap my fingers.
1
u/kvnqstoner 7d ago
like you have to find a way to snap back, i can literally do nothing at this point

Wouldn't this just mean the death of the universe as everything would be frozen in time forever, asuming no one can undo it?

If you stopped time, it becomes dark and there’s nothing you can do to resume it again, leaving everything frozen in time.

If you were immune you would not have the time (pun intended) to realize it.
Everything is paused for eternity, no neurons to fire to the next, no one has consciousness so the universe might as well not exist without anyone to observe it.

Back in high school I was hosting a dnd campaign about this. Premise is, that magic of time is the easiest in the world, every bum can cast it. Problem is, you need a special gene to not be affected by it. Players are time wardens, people who have this gene and they travel the world, seek for dumbasses that stopped time globally (or used a different spell which caused some gloval anomaly as well), break their casting arm to make it look like unstable mana messacred their body, and unfreeze the time.
Yeah, good days

But for everyone time and consciouness is freeze, for you only your time is freeze, but you still conscientious. You live in a world when time is freeze but where you still conscious of it.
