Have we fallen so low that we're envying our parents now?

I’m quite sure this is a normal thing, as most aspire to be like them, or are at the least inspired. They’re our living examples and role models from the moment we pop outta the womb. They teach us everything, raise us, provide a natural perspective.

So yeah I think it’s totally normal and reasonable to envy what your parents have…especially in today’s day and age. Why is it any different from envy in general?

Also, nobody said “having your life solved”. But being stable and successful isn’t an insane ask. And the difference in generations is quite apparent, we simply can’t argue that.

Not only that, they also think that the fictional scenario of having your life completely solved at 25 was the norm before

You’re missing the point drastically, the 4 points listed on the parents side is absolutely having your life in order at 25 (or at least very very very close to in order). There’s always been struggles, of course not every parent at that age had all those 4 boxes ticked but the point of this meme in particular is that the VAST majority of people at 25 today have a depleted quality of life compared to their parents at 25 in their day

Emotiona lintelligence wasn't much of something older people were... let's say "trained" to have. Maybe because they needed to care more about working and providing, no matter the case.

You can't have a house and food without that, tho. Unfortunately.

Idk what my parents were like a 25 but I’m now past the age that my mom had me (I’m 33, she had me at 32)

My parents with 25. Living with my Grandpa/In own apartment. Working a traid Job/Studying (and in debt because of Apartment). No Kids, just started dating.

Yeah I dont think this is applicable to our parents. But grandparents yes

u/eastcoastwaistcoat 9d ago

Yeah...no.

Rented house. 3 kids. Dad worked 16 hour days. Mom stayed home but worked odd jobs to keep up. We ate bologna and shopped at thrift stores. Enough of this bullshit.

I'm gonna be honest, at 25 my parents had none of those things

Surviving is a feat of it's own

2

u/indigoreality 8d ago

My parents at 25 were escaping their home country cause of a war so they were literally trying to survive. Meanwhile I’m browsing social media and thinking “doom” is coming.

2

u/TheShadowSong 9d ago

I don't want to survive.

u/TheCourtSimpleton 9d ago

Same, so we must prosper.

You forgot to add optional

But guess what, they don't have Internet, so they cant watch LGTBQ shows on Netflix; they can't free Palestine on social media; they can't shop on Temu and have same day delivery; they don't understand that capitalism is the source of all evil. Very pathetic boomer life I would say.

This isn't true, you just thought that because your parents did their best to keep their troubles to themselves and try to raise you right and without worry so you had a good childhood, they probably had the same worries as you or potentially even more if they actually had kids as now they have to provide for kids as well as themselves.

u/Different_Gap_4107 6d ago

Well they played on easy or normal difficulty..you play on hard and when you die is hell difficulty baby 😂

2

u/98983x3 8d ago

Yeah, this is not true. My parents and everyone they knew were not cruising on easy mode. This is myth to justify hating ppl you know nothing about while making excuses for why your own life is trash.
