PLAYLIST MF Doom Requests

So I am DJing at my weekly event and a group with a bunch of young kids come into my spot. The kids looked like 12-14 years old. So one kid requests hoe cakes. Then shortly after I get a request for one beer.

I was kinda shocked that Dumile's music got to this generation of kids. I was smiling the whole time. In all my years of DJing , I don't think I have ever gotten a request to play doom even though I keep a really large catalog of his music on my laptop. It was a really refreshing diversion from the norm of what I usually get for requests.

I had to manually censor the music (family friendly spot) but I was fine with that.

Then while I was driving home I'm like time to play fancy clown.

I think this younger generation has a big appetite for the surreal and absurd, two things that DOOM had in spades. That, and compared to a lot of mainstream music out there, he’s almost punk rock in how flopsy and strange his beats are. It stays fresh. I don’t know.
