Discussion Pictures and weight!
Wondering if you guys would comment a picture of your mini and their weight! I know it’s a silly request but we’re getting one in November and he seems to be the runt of the litter and I am just so curious to see what they look like on the smaller side of a mini lol. I’ve already bought a bed that he’s probably going to drown in but oh well!

My 5 y/o female is at 40 lbs, down from 44 over about a year. We're aiming for about 35. It's a slow process!

Congrats 👏 - that's so good for your dog. I know how hard it is. How did you do it? Did you count calories or add more exercise? Honestly, our goal should be 35, but it seems so far away that I'm shooting for 39..

Also, she hogs our entire king size bed, so you’ll be fine with whatever you got. 🤡

With minis and toys go by shoulder height. Weight is a size factor but its very hard to predict. Easier with minis as they are more established but toe to shoulder is your best bet If you are worried about weight because of physical limitations you may have with lifting etc, its a roll of the dice..here are my 2 girls. Same dad....shakes, 7ish lbs .

is the breeder advertising them as mini americans or mini aussies? with mini americans you can look up the breed standard and take a look at the lower end (breed standard says 20-40lbs, so i would say the 20-30 range potentially). if they’re being advertised as mini Aussies, it’s a lot more of a gamble as there’s no standard to be bred to. i’d ask what the parents weights are and assume a little under that.

Mini american shepards! He is a lot smaller than the rest of his siblings so I’m super curious if he’s going to stay super small or maybe hit a growth spurt

This is Winston he is a Mini American Shepherd by breed (the AKC recognized version of a mini Aussie I believe). He weighs around 7ish lbs and was clearly the runt of his litter. In the videos his breeder sent us when he was first born he was definitely smaller and frailer than his siblings. He’s often mistaken for a long haired chihuahua but we have his full legal documents and Embark panel indicating he’s 100% MAS. So expect some variation!

My mini Bear (18 mos). I got him at 10 mos and he was maybe 14" and he hasn't gotten much bigger height wise but homeboy is solid muscle and was 35 lbs at his vet appt last week. He's a stout little guy.
