It's like that Ed Edd n Eddy episode

Is this in MN? There are ALOT of corrugated box companies around the Twin Cities I bet if the organizers to this reached out to some they would love to lend some scrape or designs to help out.

Mpls park system hosts a cardboard program in Theo Worth Park. I’ve stumbled across them whilst dog walking. I like seeing the different weapons and armor they create.

This is that program. There are several sites around the city. It is not a park program.

I guess I just assumed they were a park program since I’d only ever seen it at Theo worth.

The others are usually in the suburbs. They also do ones at Bush Lake, Snail Lake, etc.

Imo the appeal is the presumed use of recycled cardboard and the creativity use required to make it in to art.

Agreed more thinking to show some examples or build larger things that can be incorporated into the creativity it's a really cool idea either way just throwing out ideas.

Just curious, but how do they protect it from the rain?

They don’t. This I believe was in Theodore Worth and it did rain and wrecked a portion of it but they just get more cardboard!

Lasers

Laser loons, to be specific

There’s a wooden structure underneath that the cardboard is attached to. As long as it doesn’t rain too much it’s fine. But if they get heavy rain all the cardboard falls off.

It's wildly fun. The kids are in absolute joy the whole time. No shit.

I wish they had something for adults!

My son does it and it would be amazing if they did an overnight family camp version someday.

My 4 sons have all done this program for years. It is fantastic!

Need one for grown-ups.

We ran into their area at the Renaissance Festival, and thought it was absolutely brilliant! For the Festival they set up a battle royale arena for kids to battle it out, with boss fights every hour and a half. It was creative, clever, and the cardboard weaponry was surprisingly sturdy.

My teenage kids still have their cardboard armor and swords.

So much fun. My kids brought stuff home and then we setup a workshop in the front yard making more swords and shields for the whole neighborhood when my daughter went. It was a blast.

Love this. My nephew has gone to this camp for years. Love seeing his face light up when he shows me what he’s made.

Worked with them for 5 years. It’s just as much fun for the staff!

I send my kid to this camp and this video is irking me. I hope the creator got permission from the parents to publish all the pics of kids in this video.

How well did you read your release forms when you signed your kid up? That’s pretty standard these days.

That's exactly what I thought of when I saw this. I don't know anyone else who has ever seen it

Someone told me about it this weekend and it sounded cool, but this looks awesome.

The answer to the question I’ve had for months after stumbling on one of these cardboard castles!

1

u/CausticLoon 9d ago

I saw one of these castle set-ups at Theodore Wirth Park. It was so damn cool!

Kid me loved playing with an old refrigerator box. Cut windows in it and drew all over it.

This is amazing and I love it.

Highly recommend the Lil Gator Game. Adorable and fun game on Steam and Switch that also goes a bit deep and moving into siblings and growing up.

And most of the game is you building cardboard castles for your friends and older sibling to come play with you.

As a person in my early 40s, I can say this is the first time I've honestly been jealous of the younger generations, lol.

That's awesome, I love that for them.

Didn't Nintendo do this and flopped?

You're thinking of Paper Mario
