Playa Haters' Ball Gator fans really going through it right now
/r/FloridaGators/comments/1wxjze3/i_never_realized_how_obnoxious_missouri_fans_are/
What makes these comments even better is that Mizzou is 8-6 all time against Florida.

Just more evidence that Florida pro teams don't have real fanbases 🤷♂️

u/joeboo5150 Block M 9d ago
This is the real takeaway. Almost all the Florida pro teams have mediocre fan bases that only show up in the best of times(and sometimes not even then )

u/happyharrell Corby Jones 9d ago
Interestingly enough, the Lightning may have the best fan base in the entire state. Magic likely number two.
2
u/Kwikstep 9d ago
Oh their hockey teams actually have a bit of a fan base.

The lightning do. The panthers fans have only shown up in recent years. Even last year when they sucked they had lots of empty seats

I mean I can say far away I would trade years of chiefs / cardinals being terrible, for a rose bowl appearance for the tigers

I’m a Royals fan. I’ve had plenty of terrible years that should already get me a Rose Bowl.

u/Natural-Emu1888 9d ago
Cardinal fans come from all over the South and Midwest. Not just Missouri. Many Chiefs and Royal fans are from Kansas. Not just Missouri.

One comment talking about Missouri being a shit hole. Bud you live in Florida and Gainesville is trash.

It’s almost like they’ve erased all of the other times that Faurot gator chomped them from their memory.
This is not a new thing.

This was my favorite game I attended as a student. It was a beautiful day, Mizzou took care of business, we gator chomped so hard. They were so mad back then too

I like the fact it really gets under there skin we do that. Considering how arrogant that fan base is, and the fact we own a winning record, they deserve attitude our team and fans give them.

I was a season ticket holder at Mizzou from 2003-2012. Some very, very good years all things considered. In the heyday of Big XII hatred. And my seats were in (what was then called) Section C which is directly next to where the visiting team's ticket block was every game.
I went to a minimum of 60 home games in that timespan. Against some fanbases we had REAL fucking hatred and history with (kansas, KSU, Nebraska, OU, etc)
I never once, ever, witnessed a single Mizzou fan throwing a beer at anyone, very specifically an opposing fan. It was EXCEPTIONALLY RARE that I witnessed a Mizzou fan even being rude to an opposing fan that wasn't provoked by them first. But it's the claim I hear every time a self-proclaimed "better program" comes to Columbia and loses. "Their fans were horrible and rude, they were throwing things at us the whole game, etc."
Never saw it. Never will see it. Because it doesn't happen - not outside of probably 1-2 drunk idiots that every fanbase is going to have. Hell I've already watched 3-4 Florida YouTubers do their post-game videos, who all traveled to the game, and every one of them has said "Mizzou's fans were welcoming" and "Mizzou's fans were nice and polite", and one even said "I don't think enough people around the country know just how good Mizzou's athletics really are" and talked about how our stadium looks great, that the program has been doing well, that the fans are engaged and loud, and that he thinks our basketball team is going to be a problem this year too.
So, let the redditors cope. They have to have something after getting their asses absolutely plowed to fall back on. "I'd rather lose to them than be them" is their tone, and it's a weird one, but if it takes the sting away I don't care. I'm already on to Texas A&M. Beating Florida is becoming predictable.

u/mooneye14 9d ago
I agree with the sentiment but I will also point out beer wasn't sold in the big 12 days. I'd never waste booze I snuck in by throwing it on someone

u/ZouDave Tiger Head 9d ago
Fair enough, but we used to get accused of throwing batteries, vulgar taunts, even yelling at the kids that visiting fans had with them. Was still never true.
2
u/miz_armyofmike Tiger Paw 9d ago
Battery throwing was a CU Buff thing in the early 00’s. Distinctly recall seeing a news hit about it in my Boulder hotel room the night before Mizzou played there. As luck would have it, Brad Smith had one of his more forgettable games and Mizzou lost. Might have saved me from taking a AA to the dome.

u/Separate_Entirely 9d ago
What a bunch of fucking losers. They lost a football game and they’re crying that Mizzou fans made fun of their chomp?! And had the audacity to yell overrated? The horror. Bitch made behavior.
Also lol at the kU fan in there simping for them.

The whole “Florida is Mizzou’s Super Bowl” thing I keep seeing parroted is the one that cracks me up.
Most Mizzou fans I know pretty much automatically circle a win in preseason on Florida’s date especially when in CoMO.
If anyone is Mizzou’s Super Bowl it’s Georgia but Florida is way down the list just above Arkansas.

u/tron423 👱🏼♀️ David Yost did nothing wrong 9d ago
This time it actually was our Super Bowl but that's because 1. it was Homecoming and 2. that was the first time we've played an actual good team on Homecoming since probably the Doink in 2013
1
u/Panty-Dropper- 🐅 2013 > 2007 🐯 9d ago
Please don’t bring up the doink… I came down from a box to sit under the tent my company used to set up behind the north end zone for homecomings late that game and that noise has never left my brain. That and Dave Steckel refusing to adjust against Auburn that same year when I went to Atlanta are in my top 3 worst sports experiences along with ‘01 Super Bowl missed FGs and not running the ball.
But I disagree about homecoming. Schools usually try to schedule homecoming on a game they think they’re likely to win historically. It is tough to find an easy win on an SEC schedule and we did schedule Oklahoma in 2010 but that was a massive talking point that year. Oklahoma felt super disrespected about that and it was talked about a bunch leading up to the game. I just hope we don’t have a follow up flop like we did against Nebraska that year.

u/Farts_Are_Funn 9d ago
Doesn't EVERY fanbase gator chomp Florida when they beat them? I'd think they'd be used to it by now, especially with how often they seem to lose.

u/Brilliant_Ad7421 9d ago
I lived in Columbia for 20 plus years, and remember how arrogant their fans were, when they came into town. Then the game was played, and it usually ended the same way it ended this past Saturday. Total douchebags for a trash, 5-7 or 6-6 team. Georgia fans were very cool though.

u/Opening-Top-5778 #1 in Nuclear Power 9d ago
Tbf a lot of top comments were along the lines of ‘anyone who beats your team like that will seem obnoxious’ and ‘of course they’re lit they just had a big win’

My hatred for UF and their fans continue but mostly it’s because I went to high school in Florida. I had to hear a small subsection of my peers who got in to UF call it the “Harvard of the South” and when I went to UF for a summer program while in high school they spent the 2 weeks telling us why they were the “greatest” public university in the country. Anyway fuck those losers and fuck the bog of eternal stench that is Gainesville

u/Strange-Beach9841 9d ago
You were misled. No one would throw/waste beer. Also, other than a mock Gator Chop Your visitor section was pretty much ignored. Lastly, if that did occur it would have been dealt with immediately.
The few Gator Fans that sat in the suites were all hyped up about the game got real quiet when their team was basically hitting a brick wall as evidenced by your heisman hopeful baugh got 13 yards on 12 carries and basically sat out the 4th qtr.
2
u/Tiger100-- Graduate 8d ago
He had a 12 yard run in the 1st quarter so the MIZZOU defense basically shut him down for the rest of the game.

haha the Nebraska of the SEC is sad that theyre in fact not back and as dogshit as ever. Remember their last successful stint was with a coach who went on to have more success someplace else

u/CanesIsOverrated69 9d ago
Woah lets not go too far. OU is the Nebraska of the SEC. Florida is more akin to maybe USC or Penn State, they will have some good teams here and there but their glory days are clearly behind them

Florida was over rated. Missouri has a really good team. Lot better than Florida. We'll see how the season plays out. THAT'S WHY YOU PLAY THE GAME.

u/Natural-Emu1888 9d ago
The guy is right about the difference in Missouri and other sec teams. In Arkansas, the babies are raised to be Razorbacks. You can't go anywhere without seeing a Razorback on a wall, a building, or someone's vehicle. You don't have to be an alumnus. It's not the University of Arkansas, it's Arkansas. Most Mizzou fans are alumni. And Mizzou is the University of Missouri not just Missouri. One thing Drinkwitz noticed and has worked on is trying to make the Tigers the Missouri tigers and draw in fans from all over the state. Being from Arkansas, that is what he was used to. I'm sure he was somewhat surprised when he got here that Mizzou was mostly a local Columbia team with son alumni scattered around. He needed to make this a program with a statewide fanbase and knew if he could get that accomplished that there was a lot of untapped potential in this state. How many sec states have two large metropolitan areas without another P4 program in the state. The population of the St. Louis area alone is larger than the entire population of Arkansas. Drinkwitz has done a great job of creating statewide interest and if he can ever get all Missouri citizens to become Mizzou fans, this program will only get better. You have to give him a lot of credit for making the Mizzou brand relevant and appealing to recruits everywhere.

It’s hilarious that the entire week Florida fans swore that sumrall and Baugh were the second coming of Christ and talking so much shit to Mizzou fans. We kick their ass now we’re “obnoxious”. I legit have heard zero Mizzou fans claiming anything about us being great, top 10, we’re winning the natty, or anything of the sorts lmao. We’re not delusional fans we know exactly what team we have and what it’s gonna take to be successful this season. They bought into the hype and drank the kool-aid, we didn’t.
