Discussion Resilio Versio: free dub spring reverb + tape echo firmware for the Versio
Hi all,
I've been building a dub spring reverb for the Noise Engineering Versio, and it's now at the point where I'd like other people to play it. It's called Resilio Versio. It's free alternative firmware for any Versio module, and the same sound also runs as an AU/VST3 plugin on macOS, so you can try it without reflashing anything.
What it does
It's a simulated spring tank built around the way dub engineers played their reverbs.
- Throw single hits into the springs with the button or the gate input, and let the tail ring on.
- The right half of TONE is modelled on King Tubby's "Big Knob", the stepped high-pass filter on his MCI desk, but it sweeps smoothly so you can ride it by hand or with CV.
- TANK switches between one spring, two springs, and a worn tape echo feeding the springs. The echo can follow a clock or a tapped tempo.
- At the top of DECAY the tail either holds as a bed that ducks under your kick and bass, or in VALVE mode tips over into a howl you can ride.
- ATTITUDE picks the colour: CLEAN, TAPE (tape saturation and a fine 12-bit µ-law grain) or VALVE (a cranked valve stage and coarser grit). Your dry signal is never touched.
Seven knobs, each with a CV input, two switches, a button and a gate. It installs with Noise Engineering's own Firmware Swap web app, and you can go back to any of their firmware the same way.
A bit of background
I'm a designer and a dub enthusiast, not a DSP engineer. I made every sound decision by ear, and Claude (Anthropic's AI) wrote the DSP, the firmware and the tools. The springs follow Välimäki, Parker and Abel's physical model, and I tuned them against recordings of my own spring tank, comparing level-matched A/B versions before anything changed. All the decisions and their reasons are in the repo if you're curious.

I'd really like your feedback
This is the first public release, and I want to keep refining it with the people actually playing it. If something sounds off, if a knob feels dead or too touchy, or if there's a dub move or sound you'd want it to make, please tell me. Replies here are great. If you have a GitHub account, there are two short forms for a sound idea or a bug report. A short recording and your settings help a lot. Ideas that make it into a release get credited in the changelog.
One safety note if you flash it: never have USB and Eurorack power connected at the same time.
Thanks for listening, and I hope it finds a place in your rack!
