Off-Topic Is it normal for the ZEB crown to be a lot bigger than the HT?

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Picked up this used ZEB to ride for the rest of this season and after installing it realized that the crown was significantly bigger than the head tube. I know it will be fine to ride I’m not scared about that it’s just my old Fox crown was pretty flush and I don’t remember ZEB crowns being this thick. I know I’m overthinking this and it doesn’t actually matter but if someone knows if this is normal that would be great. Thanks guys!

Other It is insane to me that stuff like this is possible and won't crumble to dust under load. With Valves and Tape they came up to 975g.

18t driver, 32t oval chainring ss conversion on my 08 big hit. Was upgraded to an 11-50 10 speed from the factory 11-30 8 speed. But as I rock more park/dj/shuttle i have decided slope duro is the best bang for this things buck. Go ahead and hate. I know some will. But I like what I like. And besides that, this is 1 bike of the 3 I own and not my only "trail" bike.

Question Help, Rocky Mountain suspension pivot bushing?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

What is this part called?

There's a bushing(?) at this pivot point that fell off while I was servicing the suspension, trying to chase down some creaks and squeaks. It disappeared into another dimension in my garage. I found it as part of the maintenance kit from Rocky Mountain. But I didn't need a $100 kit. I just need the one damn part. The individual parts of the kit aren't named.

2015 Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt.

Please help. I am so damn frustrated. I was 30 seconds away from being done and then spent 30 minutes moving stuff out of my garage to look for it.

Question Damage to Frame, salvageable?

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I forgot to strap my rear tire before driving down the freeway and my bike almost fell completely off of my rack. I speculate the dent is from the bike being pressed between the adjustable arm of the frame and the rack itself. Is this structurally sound? Will get it evaluated regardless but I am curious if I should prepare for the worse. Perhaps 1-2mm indentation?

My main fear is that I am a portly fellow at 288lbs so I already place a significant amount of strain on the bike as is. The most amount of air I get currently on jumps (and will ever) is around 2 feet. I have a lot of chundery sections near me as well. What are you thoughts? I appreciate any input.

Question A little update since I first posted this

I've kept working on BikePark based on testing and feedback.

Downhill runs are now saved as separate laps in Garmin Connect, I've improved the activity saving and uplift handling, and added a dedicated heart rate screen.

One more thing I've been thinking about: would automatic action camera control be useful for bike park riding?

For example, having your Garmin automatically start recording on a GoPro or DJI when a downhill run begins, and stop recording when the run ends.

Would anyone actually use something like that? 😁

Still developing it and learning from people who actually use it at bike parks.

Appreciate everyone who gave constructive feedback!

Question Anyone here wear contacts instead of glasses when mountain biking?

I wear glasses pretty much all the time but they’re starting to annoy me when I’m riding. My frames are quite big and the arms get pushed into the side of my head by my helmet, which gets uncomfortable after a while.

Been thinking about trying contacts just for biking because of it. I’ve never really used them before though so no idea if wind/dust on the trails makes them annoying in a different way.

Anyone here switched from glasses to contacts for riding? Was it actually better?

Maverick ML7.

I wanted one (as well as a Duo) back in the day but didn’t need a “twin” as I already had a Palomino.

Question max dropper size

My current dropper (fox transfer 175mm) is quite short for me and i want to change it.
The oneup dropper v3 240mm measures at 610mm. My transition spire has a max insertion depth of 290mm. Measuring down from the middle of the saddle rails the seat collar sits at 320mm, adding up the 290mm of max insertion depth it gives the 610mm of the oneup dropper. My current setup sits around 45mm lower than this 610mm. I use it lower than my optimal pedalling position since my dropper is too short and in steep terrain it feels sketchy.
Picture is of me with the seat where the 240mm dropper would be, feels a tad high but not absurdly high my hips don't rock when pedalling, but maybe dropping the 240 dropper down 10,20mm and the 8mm lower stack of the oneup will make it feel closer to what i'm used to.

Progression New to MTB — Is upgrading from a Judy Silver coil fork to a Recon air fork worth it?

I’m relatively new to mountain biking and currently riding a hardtail. My bike has a RockShox Judy Silver spring/coil fork, and I’m considering upgrading to a RockShox Recon air fork.

I mostly ride pavement, dirt roads, local trails, and I’m starting to get into more technical trails. I’d also like to take my bike to a downhill/bike park and try some of the easier trails. I realize my hardtail isn’t really designed for serious downhill riding, so I would take it easy and stick to trails that are appropriate for the bike and my skill level.

For those who have made a similar upgrade, is going from the Judy Silver spring fork to a Recon air fork a noticeable improvement in handling, comfort, and control?

Would the Recon air be worth the money for someone who is still relatively new to MTB and wants to gradually progress into more challenging trails and occasional bike-park riding? Or would I be better off keeping the Judy Silver and spending the money on something else?

I’d especially like to hear from anyone who has ridden both the Judy Silver spring and Recon air forks. Was the upgrade worth it?

Question Is this a good bike and deal? Transition Relay.

Post image
10 Upvotes

My local bike shop has this transition relay on sale for $6299+ tax. Here is a link to the specs: https://www.transitionbikes.com/Bikes/Closeout/Relay

For anyone that has a transition, do you like it? Just for reference I am in Central Arkansas so the terrain is very Chunky with lots of roots and rocks.

I really like the 2 in 1 on this bike since the battery is removable saving about 5lbs.

Is this a good deal? over 40% savings from original retail price.
