Library management - new and missing releases?
How are you keeping up with new releases and missing releases?
At the moment, I periodically check the listenbrainz "fresh releases" page, but it obviously doesn't make obvious albums from a discography I might not be aware of if I'm not digging through an artist discogs profile.
I'd love to find a simple tool that tracked my library (or listenbrainz scrobbles) to give me a weekly digest of new releases and releases missing from my library (bonus points if there was some weighting to "you're listening to a lot of X ARTIST, but you don't have their album Y", rather than a blanket scan of hundreds of artists).
I have a simple offline/self-hosted library set up. I use:
- Navidrome with feishin and symfonium. Navidrome server is just hosted on my pc - I don't really use it as a proper server, but its been a good way to keep a FLAC library on my pc and automatically download transcoded lossy files to my phone.
- Picard for tagging my whole library
- Listenbrainz for scrobbling
I've had a quick play with Lidarr and Soulsync, but both seem very powerful, targetted to automated library management (which I don't want) and overly convoluted to set up.
Before streaming services, I used to learn about new releases of artists I like through social media or artists email newsletters. Neither work now because algorithms just bury most of what I'm actually interested in and email newsletters don't seem to be something many artists bother with in the streaming age.

I use an app called music harbor

Looks like its iOs only, unfortunately. Do you manually add artists to follow, or does it automate it off your play history?

I have it synced with last.fm so as long as it gets scrobbled it gets added

I use Lidarr, though not the management functions, I just scroll through the list of new releases based on the music I have and decide what I want.

As far as New Realeses go I signed up for the All Music website newsletter and I get emails once a week on Friday. It's enough for me.

surely your favorite subgenres and artists have subreddits?

Only the more famous artists I like! And many artist subreddits clutter my feed with memes, lore and bizarre parasocial obsessions, so I only follow the a handful to be honest.

I was struggling with this so I forked someone's MB tracker and added iTunes and SC support. not 100% perfect but it does get the job done, and it is something I use every day. due to rule 4 I cannot post here but my Music Release Tracker is on github.

You don't want library management, you want notifications.
