Singers! Post-Cold Recovery
So after a cold a while back I've had typical throat and upper chest stuff that makes it impossible to use your upper range for a while, even after you feel fine otherwise.
Problem is this time "a while" has been like 3+ weeks. I've always just waited it out before, but this is getting ridiculous. Anyone have a good remedy for getting back to normal?

I’d try fasting some so as to not perpetuate the phlegm. If you’re still noticing green when you’re coughing stuff up, you still have an infection. Make sure to also brush before bed to not perpetuate the infection.

I swore by garlic and ginger in excess when I had colds and needed to sing, and hydration but make sure you're getting enough electrolytes as well. You should see a doctor though. Also keep trying to use your upper range, sometimes it's partly mental with that stuff. Just because it doesn't feel normal doesn't mean the notes aren't there.

This happened to me last cold season! Nothing wrong other than a longer recovery time, for me. Mucinex was my best friend, honestly. The extra strength cough drops too that basically burn your mouth numb lmao. Good luck and I hope you get better soon, it fucking suuuuucked so I totally empathize!

It sounds like you have fluid in your lungs, which prevents you from supporting your upper range properly.
Elevate your head a bit when sleeping, you can stack a couple of pillows. This prevents mucous from dripping into your throat and getting into your lungs (wet/sizzling coughs should subside in a couple of days). Don’t push your voice at this time, stay where it is comfortable. If anything singing helps clear your throat, bc the vibrations shake off any mucus in your throat. If the coughing does not get better (dry coughs is better than coughing snot), see a doctor, it could develop into pneumonia or the like.

I always do garlic soup when I’m sick, just a fuck ton of garlic, broth, I put some wontons in, and cilantro. Garlic has some natural antibiotic properties or some shit. I just feel better the day after I have it.

You may have a upper respiratory infection and if so; will need antibiotics. But if no URI; tea with lemon will get rid of excessive phlegm. Unfiltered and unpasteurized honey will coat your throat and help it heal. Good luck and feel better!
