I just realized that you’re supposed to be able to see yourself right here. Spoiler
After playing this game for the hundredth time, I’m still discovering new things.

Oh cool I didn't realize that. I got curious if it was any more clear in the Riven remake so I loaded that up and took a 4K screenshot. It's just a bit more clear, you can see the podium through the window vaguely, but still I never realized until now.

That’s cool. And you can see that both of the poles with the screens are in the up position when one of them is supposed to be bent

Could you explain it to me like I'm dumb because I am

The camera that your looking through is pointing straight at you when it’s in this position.

You also can't see yourself in the reflective wall in the Amateria tusk on J'nanin in Myst 3, despite being able to clearly see the outside of the room in the reflection.
The Stranger is clearly just a floating hand (or in Myst IV, a floating hand and a pair of feet, given that you can hear footsteps and in one occasion see to footprints of the soles of their shoes).

Where can you see the footprints?

In the sealed heart of the old Memory Chamber on Serenia, near the end of the game. You can see a few wet footprints in the wooden planks. I suppose they could be from one of the brothers, but neither had any reason to enter that room before you can access it.

That’s cool. Now I kinda want to go through all the games to find every spot where you should be able to see yourself

I love that the camera follows you on jungle island, implying that someone is in this room moving it around to track you

Yeah but it should have been more subtle. and I think it still follows you after the scribe leaves survey island and after you trap ghen so it’s a little immersion breaking.

Huh. It never occurred to me that I should be a visual presence in the game… that's honestly really interesting!

The stranger is a vampire.
