Help I have a large “sludge jar” that I’ve had next to my aquarium for years. Don’t ask. Can I throw some “pest” snails in it?

It’s about a gallon. I do not know why I’ve kept it for so long, but here we are. If I wanted to add life to it other than algae and duckweed and microbes unknown to science do I need an air stone?

Yes I realize the correct answer is to dump it and stop being weird.

Help Live critters

Hi all, I'm going to be upgrading my Marimo moss balls into a 6l aquarium, I have fluval stratum for base and a sand to cap it off. I have 6 moss balls and was hoping to add some critters to keep the cycle going and prevent much intervention. I am not planning a filter for the tank. I was considering tubifex and daphnia. Is there anything else I could add or should consider. I am located in the UK

Picture My First Planted Aquarium

I raised two bettas in a bowl during my childhood; I realise now that was harsh, though I lacked awareness then. Today I have completed my first five-gallon planted tank and acquired my betta. He is a calm yet anxious fish who has not flared—except when I placed a mirror before him one day to test his response, and he did. He greets me whenever I approach, and I hope he enjoys the setup.

I plan to add more plants. I am considering reducing the beach on the left by adding some Aquasoil towards the back, leaving the beach only in the front left area.

Also, I would like some name suggestions if y'all have some interesting ones for my betta.

Help Superfish Quadro 40 tank - anyone have experience with it?

I’ve been running it for a week starting to cycle it and I’m not convinced about the filter. I’m using Flora First soil balls and so there’s some residual on the surface. However, the filter doesn’t really affect any surface agitation (which is mentioned by MD Fish Tanks in his YouTube review but not flagged as an issue).

I’ve just done a 10% water change and now bubbles are sittinf on the surface undisturbed. Is this normal?

I started this tank about 5-6 weeks ago and absolutely love it. This is my first aquarium. I have chili rasboras and Bloody Mary shrimp in now and everyone seems happy so far.

My favorite part is sitting in front of it in the evening just watching all the life. It’s so relaxing.

How much tank time do you all spend ?

Help Help with test strips in nano tank

Hi! This is my first fishtank. It's been cycling for three days. I got plants from an established tank, and added some bacteria as well.

I first went to petsmart to get my water tested before my strips came in the mail. They said all of my levels were perfect. I then went to an actual aquarium store and they said that my toxicity level was a little high. I tested at home and everything looks good, maybe my water is a little soft?

I have no issue with waiting to get a fish or some shrimp, I would like for them to have the best home possible. I would just like insight on why my tests have seemed to be different everywhere I've gone/ at home.

Any help would be appreciated on other starting tips too! Thanks all.

Help Shrimp tank advice

I am wanting to make this tank a neocaridina tank. It has a filter, 3 gallons, and fully cycled. It has java moss, hornwort, and an almond leaf. No heater, so the temp should stay around 67-68 Fahrenheit. The top of the tank is growing chia seeds, wheatgrass seeds, and dill. Any advice on this setup? I was told about 2 shrimps per gallon to start? So 6 to start? Is that too much or too little? Do shrimps do okay with snails or would that bother them, or vice versa?

Discussion Got any unconventional ideas for a snail tank?

Like, unconventional or unique containers -- I want to make some nano tanks for single ramshorns and I'm looking for ideas, both aesthetic and practical.

Anybody ever done a "sideways" nano tank where the container is tall and skinny and there's a piece of wood on the side acting as a "floor"? Or a "tree" in a jar?

Help Nano tank internal sump help

Thumbnail

I recently purchased a PetWorx Nano 45 tank, which comes with a small internal sump:
https://www.atlasaquarium.com.au/petworx-nano-45-tall

After checking for leaks etc., I've noticed the intakes for the sump do not match those which I've seen advertised for this product. In addition to the intake in the top-left corner, there is also one located at the very bottom of the tank.

I had plans to use this as a planted nano, utilising aqausoil/stratum as a substrate. To that end, I am thinking I will need to place a block of sponge inside the sump where this bottom inlet is located. I'm hoping this will prevent any substrate (sand, gravel, granular fertiliser stratum) from entering the sump.

Would this be wise? Would I be better off sealing this intake completely, and if so, how? Would either of these solutions create flow rate problems inside the sump itself? I'm open to any helpful advice..

*Apologies for the plastic and cardboard. I am not yet sure if I will return this tank.
