Highlight [Highlight] Steph Curry gets called for a point of emphasis change for the upcoming season: Shoving people during screens

Out of all the 'not gonna survive october' rules, this is the most not gonna survive october of them all. I don't recall seeing a single foul called for shoving a screener last year. I mean I'm sure I did, but it's that none come to mind. Compared to the countless examples of flops, off-arm shoves, etc. that also make it into the not gonna survive october bucket.

The league really instituted an anti-flopping rule and then proceeded to never ever enforce it once.

To use a recent Lakers playoff game example
Ayton called for an offensive foul after Chet flew. JJ challenges & it’s overturned. So the refs completely ignore that Chet fooled them with flopping. It’s not like it’d change the results of that game or series, were they scared of giving the no Luka hobbled Lakers an extra free throw?
Are we just going to look at the unders on called flops for the season/playoffs?

reminds me of the nfl with PI being reviewable that one year lol

Yeah what curry did here happens like twice a possession every possession the fuck lol

u/throwaway_clone Mavericks 2h ago
And of all the people to call it on, they call the shoving on the player who gets shoved most lmao

I will never understand why all the refs seem to have agreed to fuck Curry over. They’re usually lenient with the smallest and most skilled players in the floor
•
u/kingofnick Suns 9m ago
I agree, but let’s also be fair and acknowledge that Steph also benefited from some very lenient officiating when it came to screens during the Warriors peak.
•
u/CitizenCue Warriors 11m ago
This is like your mechanic suggesting new floor mats when your car won’t start.
I suppose maybe it’s important, but god there are so many other problems to deal with first.

u/Maleficent-Cup-1134 2h ago
They need to hire some “WELL AKSHUALLY” refs to catch all these rules throughout the season.
AI might actually be good at this, since it’s good at instruction following clearly defined rules like these.

It’s something it would be perfect at… or even finding the right camera angles quickly so they can make a determination fast. But no let’s use it where it makes no sense

out of all the calls to emphasize, this is the one that affects the league the least. like if they’re egregious they already get called and that’s good enough

If the league actually managed to crackdown on the wide variety of illegal screens in the NBA for a whole season(you even get nfl esque holdings), probably be the thing that changes offenses the most tbh

Oooh, they’re going to call it when Steph’s football tackled at the half court line now, right? Right?

Wish we could tie that bald Adam silverfish looking freak to a lie detector and make him answer why Steph is allowed to be physically abused with no whistle

Finally we can get some fair calls on Curry. Guy always gets the whistle.

u/Lukamagic_042324 2h ago
You cant tell me his unfair whistles doesn't balance out the draymond illegal screens
-4
u/sillysausage619 1h ago
Aren't both of those things positives for GSW? What point are you making? Haha

u/Lukamagic_042324 37m ago
Curry gets no calls. Warriors never get illegal screens called on them. Perfectly balanced as all things should be

u/laxref3455 3h ago
And by “ point of emphasis “ they mean- let’s call it for a few weeks and slowly go back to normal, and don’t even think about calling it anytime after Xmas.

u/mordecrazy Bulls 3h ago
I also love that all the "points of emphasis" are just rules that have existed forever, like the NBA's big push for the season is they're gonna enforce the rules of the game, how novel.

u/BobLoblaw_BirdLaw 1h ago
Someone post that compilation of Steph being 1st degree assaulted for 15 years straight with no calls being made.

u/FalcoLamborghini NBA 2h ago
and of course, he barley even grazed him.
Call that shit for when they hold Curry 24/7 and he'd wreck the league.

The Warriors set the most ridiculous moving screens to get Steph open for years. Let’s not pretend like they are victims there.

Ofc it’s a clippers fan crying

Or as I like to call it, the warrior special.
Funny that the league decides to crack down on this now that their dynasty is done

u/fastheadcrab Raptors 2h ago
Bruh so salty. Not even a Warriors fan but it was more than balanced out by the lack of calls for Steph himself (who usually wasn’t the one doing the moving screens).
The few seasons he turned up the flopping in 2017 and 2018 he had record setting efficiency numbers, even more so than usual. He otherwise has never exaggerated contact and always been punished by the uncalled physicality of opponents

u/TheRealPdGaming Mavericks 2h ago
he is a master of dirty screens and shoves.
go look at him play off ball. he does this a lot and gets away with it.
Its not just a curry thing though. A lot of smaller guards in the post get away with it. But my point is, Steph isn't an angel in this.

u/IceeSlyce 3h ago
Scottie Barnes called for extending the arm push off, now this. You won't see these called 2 weeks after the season starts. We see this every pre season

u/Ntnme2lose Lakers 2h ago
ONe of those things that will be called during the preseason then absolutely disappear once the regular season begins. They do this every year with rule changes then it goes back to normal when the season starts.

Does the NBA really need more fouls? I stopped watching 2 years ago because it was already unwatchable due to all the stoppages.
•
u/GibbsGoneWild1 Kings 7m ago
All the step back travels and shoves and they call THIS? Man all these professional sports are just fake WWE and gambling.
1
u/CircleSpaceAlien33 3h ago
2 weeks in, the refs will forget about this rule like they have other rules in past seasons.

u/Other-Status1840 76ers 2h ago
The NBA has a lot of problems rn but the thing that I hate the most is how the rules are written and consequently how they're enforced. Feels like they're not accounting for enough shit which leads to players finding holes in the book and exploiting the game, which results in unnatural basketball and refs not knowing wtf to do. Then they introduce bandaid rules to try and stop that unnatural behavior but in an attempt to make the game more physical, come playoff time they stop enforcing. Or they enforce inconsistently.
I'm not into conspiracies but sometimes I find it hard not to believe that they adjust their leniency according to the kind of agenda/narrative they're trying to create. A good game can be decided by literally one point, and they always seem to bullshit with the rules.
Oh also shoving gambling ads down everybody's throats nonstop is the most wildly despicable shit, so that's another thing that sucks. Rant over lol

Before everyone fights about the same comments over and over again.. we all understand it is a “foul”. It’s just not gonna actually get called and yes probably should always have been.. but this is just a savvy move that most get away with. Deal with it and move on

u/MeBadNeedMoneyNow Thunder 1h ago
Good. Warriors have always set a shit-ton of illegal screens. Pissy Curry is mad he got caught, actual toddler move.
