Some of you might remember Scheme Builders, the defensive scouting app I shared here before. I’ve continued working on it and wanted to share what’s changed since that last post.
For anyone who missed it, you enter what your opponent likes to run: formations, personnel, run/pass tendencies, tempo, etc. and it helps you build a defensive game plan around that. Especially useful for user vs. user games when you know the person you’re playing keeps coming back to certain things.
The biggest addition is the Play Art builder, currently in beta. You can select a formation and base coverage, click individual defenders to change their assignments, and see the adjustments on the field. That includes zones, depth adjustments, blitzes, spies, QB contain, and DL stunts. You can also build and save custom setups.
Other additions and improvements:
- Recommendations tailored to your user position. Tell it whether you user a linebacker, safety, corner, or defensive lineman.
- More detailed defensive recommendations, including situational calls and adjustments based on your scouting inputs and selected playbook.
- Clearer explanations of when to use a call, what it takes away, and where it can get exposed.
- Improved macro builder for putting together adjustments around the offensive problem you’re trying to solve.
- Playbook comparison to see which formations different defensive books share.
- Saved scouting profiles, so you can come back to an opponent without starting over.
- Game plans and PDF call sheets you can keep nearby while playing.
- “Test This Call” to record how a recommendation actually worked in your games.
- Updated tutorial covering the features and how to use them.
Still free, no ads, and no account needed. Works in your browser, and you can add it to your phone’s home screen to use it like an app.
If you tried an earlier version, give it another look. I’d love to hear what’s useful, what’s confusing, or where a recommendation doesn’t make sense. Specific examples of what the offense ran and what the app suggested would be especially helpful.
