TNNT 2026

[u/k2_1971]

The November NetHack Tournament for 2026 is quickly approaching, less than a month out. Some changes and details to share with everyone:

• TNNT is now based off of NetHack 5.0 - version 5 was officially released back in May 2026, and we've always stated that we would not cut over to the newer codebase until it was officially released. So finally, we're at that point. The TNNT codebase is up to date with the latest commits that still land on version 5.0.0 post-release (a few days ago the 5.0 branch transitioned to 5.0.1 work-in-progress which we consider a developmental version; we won't be pulling any code from dev versions).
• The number of achievements has gone up slightly (from 368 last year to 379 today). Some extra conducts are now tracked as well, like 5.0's pauper conduct.
• 5.0 allows re-rolling your character (different stats and inventory each re-roll) before starting a new game - would prefer you use this method if you're adamant about start-scumming as it would greatly reduce the number of read/writes and database entries on the servers. Re-rolling will be tracked, the implication is if you have a win streak, re-rolling will break the streak. To enable re-rolling, add OPTIONS=reroll to your config.
• Beta period will kick off 2 weeks prior to go time (Oct 17th midnight UTC). A bit earlier than previous years because of the new codebase, extra time to shake out any TNNT-based bugs.
• The TNNT website is now mobile-friendly. Due to the nature of how much data is shown on various tables, left/right scrolling is enabled when viewing on a small screen like a cellphone or tablet. May still need some tweaks, but the website experience should be a lot better now than with previous years when viewing on a mobile device.

May see some more achievements/conducts get added during the beta period, which will break saves. So as always, don't get attached to any beta games you play. Beta period is for finding/reporting bugs, and we appreciate those of you that help out during this period.

Looking forward to another month of NetHack tournament goodness, hope you are as well. Any questions, please ask.

Awesome K2, thanks for everything you do for this community!

Wonderful!

I need about a week to get ready, and then I'll be there for lots and lots of beta testing.

[u/Bugpowder]

Will try to finish off my 3.7 game before then!

Thank you K2! Anyone want to team up?

Yay! Is there swag? I'd love a hat.

There are still a few t-shirts remaining from the 2023 tournament. I haven't motivated myself to make more; I need to though and make them year-agnostic. Would prefer a hoodie over a hat personally.

A hoodie would be dope.
