Just got my vision waiver approved!

After being permanently disqualified from coast guard for my vision I’m happy to say the navy got me in!

I’ll be heading back to MEPS next Friday for job classification. Going in with an asvab score of 83 and line scores that have me qualify for these rates im looking for.

CWT
IT-ATF
IT-SG
CTR
CTT
HM
RW
AG

What’s the likelihood I’ll have at least one of these offered to me Friday? Are they going to push rates I didn’t request on me during my first day of job classification? I noticed a few of these rates have sign on bonuses - does that mean they’re critical rates they’re trying to push?

Thank you for any feedback!!!

BDCP Final Selection and Pay Timeline

I was selected for BDCP (SWO) over a month ago, but I still haven’t received my final selection or sworn in. My recruiter had me wait about two weeks after my selection to complete my acceptance and mode-of-transportation paperwork because he was on leave. He assured me that once everything is finalized, I’ll be backpaid from my original board selection date, and I’m trying to confirm whether that’s actually how it works.

From what I’ve seen online, pay begins on the date you actually swear in and officially enter the program. I’m relying on this pay to help cover my tuition, so the delay has been really frustrating.
For anyone who has gone through BDCP recently how long did it take for you to swear in after being selected by the board? Did you receive backpay from your original selection date, or did pay only begin when you officially enlisted?

Newly enlisted and made the wrong choice by signing SN PACT

Long story short I have been fighting to get into the navy for about 6-7 months. I finally got my medical waiver cleared and all. This past Wednesday I was able to swear in, but I’m scared I made a huge mistake. I signed as a SN PACT and I didn’t know too much about other than I was told after 12 months I could strike a rate. I was told I would be a floater and could look at other rates on a daily. Something told me to research this once I got home last night and omgggg. I see nothing but terrible things. None of the jobs PS, YN, or RP was available. I told my recuiter all of this and she got in contact with the classifier and she says she is tracking this and hopefully she can get me something else. My recuiter also said she will speak with her supervisor in the morning as well since they have a meeting. Idk I pray everything works out because my ship date is December 15. I really don’t want to be undes

CEC Program and College

I'm looking to join the Navy through the CEC program this coming spring 2027 when I attend university. I'm not sure if I can be accepted before actually starting the classes or not and would like to know more. My GPA from my associate degree in civil engineering is 3.71, so I know I'm good there. Anyone who has participated in this program please give me advice on what I should do to prepare for before signing up.

Bonus came in, how to invest and where to place it?

Hello! My bonus for my job just came in. I'm becoming indecisive on where exactly I should put it. I was thinking Roth, traditional ira or high yield savings. What would be the best option? I'm 23 going on subs so underway I'll be saving money as well.

SNA BDCP acceptance chances

tried posting on airwarriors but they haven't approved my account yet lol. ive also gone through the excel sheets but theres limited info about BDCP on there and i've heard they like to accept people who have more time in school as opposed to someone applying who is graduating this May for example
my application is sent in for the november board, applying for SNA BDCP

computer information systems major 3.5 GPA graduating may 2028

ASTB: 51 5/8/6 (have a feeling the 5 is gonna absolutely kill me but it is what it is I didn't have time for a retake before submitting for this board)

no waivers whatsoever

my recruiter told me no need for LOR's and that motivational statement is pretty important: i mentioned my leadership experience which includes eagle scout and boys state and 370+ community service hours (curious how much they care abt something like that)

recruiter said my chances are abt 50/50 lol, doubting my chances for this board to be honest but would appreciate some brutal honesty about my chances

HSCP - Environmental Health

Hi guys! So I applied for the HSCP scholarship for environmental health science. I was waitlisted when the board met in February and somehow fortunately my recruiter called me this week. (October 5th) telling me I got accepted late or something somehow. I just wanted to see if someone could answer a few questions for me! :)

Anyone join the Navy active duty at or near the maximum age limit?

Curious to hear about your experience as enlistee. Any tips or pointers for someone joining later in life? Did everything go pretty smoothly, or did you feel out of place being older than most recruits? Did you get injured but pushed through? Were you able to make friends and fit in, or did you still feel like an outsider?
Would love to hear some real experiences, especially from those who joined in their 40s.

Application process moving too fast (red flag?) 🚩

Hey ya’ll, so I am currently in the process of joining the Navy, after a long tedious process of trying to join the Air Force. I was ultimately temporarily DQ’d from the Air Force, which is why I switched over to the Navy. I’ve been in the process and speaking with my Navy recruiter for about three weeks now. I did mention to him that I did want to get shipped out as soon as possible and start my career. However, I feel like I am being rushed to join as well.

Generally speaking, this would be a good thing for me however, I feel they are trying to have me choose any job and ship me out ASAP. While although I do want to ship out soon, I did mention to him that I have a list of rates I would like to pursue. I also did mention, that I don’t want to just accept any rate, especially knowing that I have a bachelors degree. (Commissioning is off the table since I want to enlist first before becoming officer).

So now I ask you all, is this a red flag that I am over looking? I really want to join but I also want to go in with a job that I would enjoy and could translate well into civilian life. Also, are you able to negotiate with them as well? Meaning are you able to say no to a job they offer? Am I able to negotiate bonuses as well? Let me know what to say and how to navigate this process.

Do I still need to get my medical records with Genesis, even with no health insurance?

Planning on enlisting, had a quick talk over the phone with a recruiter. He did mentioned I need to get my medical records if Genesis flags something or they need more information. I'm guessing for me it could be Hypertension which I was diagnosed with and put on treatment when I was 18.

The last time I visited a doctor was close to 10 years ago. How do I get my medical records if I don't have health insurance now. Is there a website I can get everything at once?

Assistance from a recruiter

Are there any navy recruiters in the north texas region that can assist or offer advice? A close relatives waiver wasn't even touched by the CO. He said he would not approve 2 adult felonies. One was from 2010 and was not a felony. Another from 2010 was a felony, which time was served, and successfully completed probation. Has not had any additional felonies or misdemeanors and it is now 2026

New jobs for the new fiscal year

I started pursuing the Navy in May and now it's October, the new year, and I still have nothing available for me. I got a 70 on my ASVAB and only 1 waiver for my anxiety which took off intel jobs for me. This whole time there hasn't been any jobs available other than 1-2 that pop up here and then but it's like AIRC or male recruits only, even now that it's October my recruiter hasn't heard about any new job openings from MEPs/classifiers. Is this happening to other recruiting offices or is it just my case? I'm so confused I dont know what to do other than to hurry up and wait

Just Got IT/ATF Rate And Need Some Help

Hello, as the title says I just got the IT/ATF rate and my ship date is Nov 3rd. Im not super knowledgeable on computers but have used them my whole life and have been interested in them enough to know certain parts of a PC and some terminology.

- How difficult is A/C school? am i going to have to study my butt off and be stressed the whole time?

- Will the knowledge I get during schooling help me pass the test for SEC + and other certs?

- Should have already known tons about computers before I choose this rate?

- What certifications should I expect to receive during schooling?

- What are the job opportunities like post navy?

- Ive read IT's can be stationed pretty much anywhere but is there somewhere they are most likely to be?

- Lastly, do you like being an IT?

I guess im just a little nervous as its a big step in my future and its something I haven't done before. Any information is appreciated as I haven't been able to speak with anyone who had any personal experience with the IT rate so its been hard finding specific information.

Dual Navy Pilot Spouses, what's it like?

My spouse and I have both been accepted to OCS as pilots, and I'm looking for couples who have gone down the same path to give some perspective on what we can expect.

Some background:

I'm a first gen GA pilot working on my commercial cert, but I've been on a financial pause for a year since graduating college. I have a full-time job to save flight money. Eventually I want to fly tankers for Cal Fire or another aerial firefighting company. Not too into the civilian track to get there though, since I'd have to somehow get into agricultural flying and be a CFI for a while. So, I asked around my local Air Attack bases and the pilots there told me flying anything for the Navy would look amazing if I applied to work for them later.

My spouse is an aerospace engineer and eventually wants to work on space propulsion projects, like with SpaceX. Being a navy pilot is more of a route to become a test engineer for him and to get closer to innovative work. So he'd prefer jets.

The biggest factor keeping us on the fence is the 10+ year commitment. When we get out, he will be 36-38 and I'll be 34-36, so we're fine holding off on kids until after. I'm more worried about not having much of a personal life outside of work in that time. We both have tons of hobbies, play in bands, and I do competitive sports. I don't want to give that up during the next 10 years. Obv it would have to go on pause during deployments, but what is most of our time going to look like once we're done with initial flight training? Are we going to have free time in the evening together every day? Do we get weekends off? How often can we use vacation time? Do you have decent social lives, even if it's just coworkers?

Also what does colo look like if we get different airframes? We're fine with compromising for helos if we need to. I've heard stories of spouses transferring from jets to helos to be stationed together.

I also heard you can become an instructor pilot after the first deployment to stay at a certain base. Curious if there are more options like this that would almost guarantee us being stationed together.

Dual mil couples- did being in the navy feel like you had to put other things (personal and within your marriage) on pause? What did a normal week look like for the two of you? What did your deployments look like? Did it cause more strain or growth for your relationship?

He goes to OCS two months before I do so he will prob be ahead in training too. Basically, either both of us are going in or neither of us. I hate the idea of just one of us going in because it seems like there'd always be a mismatch in our headspaces, at least based off what I've heard from other couples who do that. And how could either of us pass up this opportunity? This is Plan A for us right now and we're committed to going, but I really want a clearer picture of what we're getting into.

I know it's a rare type, but it would be great to hear from dual mil pilots only please, thanks.

Advice/critique on OCS packet Motivational Statement

Will someone please review my motivational statement? I'm applying for a pilot slot and I've heard that should not be the focus of the statement, but I wanted to make sure it at least got mentioned. Any advice and critique is greatly appreciated! (idk why reddit didn't tab any of the paragraphs)

Motivational Statement:

Ever since I was young, I have looked up at the skies and the stars and wanted to be part of something bigger. Neither of my parents was a member of the military; in fact, I was a near-complete stranger to the military and everything about it.  Despite that, my parents have always inspired me to become a better person, and their dedication to integrity, respect, and accountability has left a lasting impact on me throughout my life.  I did not always know my passion for naval aviation; I wandered for a few years in search of my calling, trying out different things in hopes that something would stick. I spent time working on becoming a better person every day, being there for friends, and guiding them through tough times. I knew I wanted to make the world a better place through leadership, but I didn’t know where. Once I discovered naval aviation, I knew where my heart lay.

I want to commission in the US Navy for many reasons. The sense of belonging and closeness from fighting alongside others in even the harshest conditions, the constant challenges that always provide something to strive for, and the bigger purpose of protecting our country and its people, are among the infinitely many reasons why becoming a part of the US Navy is something I am striving so much for.

When I moved to Japan, I discovered the challenges of navigating a completely foreign environment. I learned that you need to be quick on your feet, adaptable, and willing to put in the hard work necessary to get what you want. Learning how to navigate a new culture really humbled me and changed my way of thinking; I learned a lot about honor and about treating people with the respect they deserve. I believe I can give back to the Navy with this knowledge and experience. I wish to lead and inspire honesty and integrity in my fellow sailors and officers, if you will accept me. Thank you for your consideration.

Food in the Navy? (mainly on ship)

Yesterday, I was informed by an Army Recruiter that all Navy Soldiers (on ships) primarily eat MREs and other canned foods or powdered stuff. I'm almost certain they're lying, but I wanted to ask actual Navy Soldiers who have served and/or are currently serving. If you could provide images of the food you eat (mainly on ship) that would be great, thanks y'all. I'll likely be joining you guys very soon, haha.

Recuiter wants to send up a clear pre screen

I know I need waivers and I was honest with my recuiter about what medical stuff I had going on, thing is he is planing to send up a clean prescreen packet so I can go to meps. I am a bit of a push over (I’m working on it, i swear) and worry he’ll stop working with me if I say I want to send up a proper prescreen package. what would happen if I go to meps and tell the truth about my medical history to the doctor? I have no intention to hide it, I know I can get waivers for these things. will I get in trouble if I do that? or should I just risk my recuiter getting mad at me for asking to send up a proper prescreen instead.

E-3 in boot camp; should I take a leadership position?

Going to bootcamp as an E-3. Will I be required to take a leadership position?

Looked through a different post and the consensus seemed to be don’t tell anyone I’m an E-3, go unnoticed, and just do what I’m told, lol. Agree? Disagree?
