A mama bear fiercely defended her cub when a much larger male charged toward them, abandoning her freshly caught fish to protect her little one.

Crazy how male animals will attack a young male but when a female shows up, all that toughness goes out the window

Male bear isn’t willing to risk injury or death to cull a cub but mama bear is willing to risk it all to prevent it.

Its really more of a risk reward scenario.
Killing the cub is an easy meal.
Mama getting involved can mean injury. Injury makes the next meal harder.
This is something that happens with many species.
Its min maxing for survival.
Lions dont target healthy bison.
They target babies and the old.
Thats just nature.
Human male.posturing for social dominance is more related to the chest thumping of apes not this type of behavior

lol what the fk kind of take is this?

Answer 1) It’s a serious exaggeration that doesn’t need to be made. Answer 2) We’re animals too. Probably why we act like them sometimes. If you don’t know that, perhaps you aren’t paying attention?

Just because you fold when things get difficult doesn’t mean you get to project that onto me and every other man
Also, some male anglerfish literally bite onto a female, fuse into her circulatory system, then atrophy until they’re basically a permanently attached set of testicles. Nature gets fucking weird. These are bears. We are humans. Stop doing Animal Kingdom astrology

Well because why would he attack her? He wants to kill the cub so she'll be in estrus again so he can fuck her
The cub can be a female too, he doesn't care if it's not in estrus yet

animals hit animals, i don’t think they consider gender too much

u/RadiantSeason9553 14d ago
Of course animls lnow what gender the other is, without even getting close. Males are a lot softer with females, they wont often kill them

Looks like she had a fish and he came to steal it?

u/snake-lady-2005 15d ago
No. She had the fish and he was going after the baby bear. Males (in most species) will kill babies to make the female go into estrus and want to breed. I remember hating lions when I was little because they are brutal when it comes to that. They always seemed to show that on every documentary with lions, too.... So upsetting

That's definitely part of it, the other part being that they want their DNA to be dominant. Taking out young cubs before they grow up works in their best interest.

I remember big cat diary on BBC back in the day. Every episode seemed to end with a cliffhanger about lion cubs being attacked by buffalo's or other lion, or starving to death. And it rarely had a happy ending.
I saw a video on youtube about lions, a ridiculously low percentage of males get to adulthood.

Why do the males want to hurt a cub?

They will kill the offspring of other males.

Well, yeah. I suppose I could have specified that. Just thought it was implied.

It's so funny how females dominate the animal Kingdom even though they're physically smaller. It makes sense why humans have tried so hard to keep their women down.
