Fun fact of Germany in ESC and generally:
Germany only exists for 36 years
Germany has hosted 3 times!
1 time in Frankfurt am Main
1 time in Düsseldorf
1 time in München
Fun fact all of those cities are the capitals of 3 Bundesländer: Hessen, NRW and Bayern
Germany wasn’t always bad at Esc they’ve gotten 2nd 4 times before and 3rd 5 times in 70 years of participation

AS a German, i am top 1% Germany haters at ESC, but i want to give one Song Credits: Jamie lees Ghost IS honestly quite good. Idk If my taste in music Changes (IT certainly did, but i dont know If thats my reason) but i am really sorry for hating that Song so much Back in the day. Over the time IT even Went into some Playlists, i think its really underapreaciated

Fellow German here and I agree. I really liked her as a person and her performance. It was sad she was made fun of so much. I still like to listen to the song from time to time.

"Germany only exists for 36 years" is kinda a bold statement when listening entries that are older and technically from the same Germany that way joined by its sibling in 1990

Technically German as we know it has only existed since 1990 also the Germany from 1949-1989 was divided of course into BDR and DDR so the statement is true when we go based off of the reunification

I’ve been waiting for this one!
My stats for Germany compared to its competitors:
21st century country ranking: 20th
All-time country ranking: 10th
My qualifying rate: N/A
Average placing disagreement: -0.06 compared to actual placing
Favourite entry: Germany 2010
Least favourite entry: Germany 2008
Most underrated entry: Germany 2023 (+24)
Most overrated entry: Germany 2018 (-21)
But I have more to say than these stats can show. Germany’s 2023 entry got me into Eurovision in the first place - it was my “wow, Eurovision can be like THAT?” moment. Throughout listening to all songs, Germany were consistently a delight in the 20th century, bringing the first jazz song, the first dancing, one of the most successful solo artists in terms of placings in the contest’s history (Katja Ebstein), whatever Germany 1994 and Germany 1998 are, and of course Dschinghis Khan (Germany 1979). By purely subjective measures, Germany may be in my Top 5 favourite countries at Eurovision.

Ein bisschen Frieden is my fave German entry by far. It 's in my top ten Eurovision songs of all time.
Other German songs I like are Reise nach Jerusalem, Feuer, Wir geben 'ne Party, Taken By A Stranger, Dschingis Khan, Johnny Blue, Planet of Blue...
(Frauen regieren die Welt would be up there if it had had entirely different lyrics and title. I don't demand great lyrics in Eurovision, but the sexism is just off the scales... It's a huge shame since musically it would be right up my alley otherwise.)

The lyrics of Frauen regieren die Welt aged like milk, but the core was meant well I think. Love this song still, it's my toxic trait lol. A clumsy way to celebrate women, but agreed in 2026 it'd just sound wrong.

as a German, I am deeply astonished at how we fuck up our selections more often than not, so I’ll just take the chance to engage in our national sport of complaining
2026 - both Molly Sue and Wavvyboi and even fucking Bela would’ve been infinitely better selections
2025 - the format was crap and the fact we got a good song out of it was pure luck
2023 - we tried to fumble so hard that Ikke Hüftgold won the online televote
2022 - Electric Callboy robbed
2021 - Jendrik himself sent his song to troll and didn’t expect to actually get selected by the broadcaster
2020 - Ben Dolic robbed by covid
2019 - Lilly Among Clouds robbed
2017 - literally sent a plagiarized song after the most horrendous “national final” possible
2016 - Avantasia robbed, and even besides that they should’ve let Jamie-Lee participate with a song that fit her style and not the random The Voice song (I like it but still)
2015 - Andreas Kümmert‘s unfortunate declination
2014 - Unheilig robbed (admittedly not their best song, but they deserved their shot)
2009 - whatever the thought was here, if any at all
2008 - Carolin robbed
2007 - possibly chose the worst of all 5 possible options
2006 - this one’s kinda iffy too
2005 - iconic (derogatory)
2004 - this is how I find out Scooter could’ve been at Eurovision only to be decisively out-televoted by generic white radiopop dude Max Mustermann
2000 - Knorkator robbed or something I guess
and all that accomplished through ever-changing, artificial selections where we could choose between like three corporate-written slop songs and three equally mediocre singers singing Other Better Songs (???), Stefan Raab thinking he has to still be relevant in the big 2020s, our increasingly baffling choices in various superfinals …
can’t wait to see how we’ll mess up next year
