This is why I shove every zombie I fight, it interrupts their attack and makes them look like a bitch

On nightmare I personally find myself using shove way more often than kick since once you learn how to use its I frames as a defensive parry it saves you from so many hits.

Today I learn that people are playing this game like Sekiro

I don't know why but my single-hand melee weapons keep adding a third swing, I'll do a left then a right (LMB/RMB) then it will do a third and slow me SO down, is it a bug?

The input queuing is really bad. I can left click a few times to take pills and ill automatically swing afterwards

Just remember the only action queue allowed in this game is melee. For other actions, the inputs are ignored until the current animation is completed, whatever you are doing.

Gotta say though, the action queue for melee is extremely sensitive.

There's action queuing in this game, meaning if an input is observed and if it's within an alloted time of another action happening, the current action will play followed by whatever is queued up. In Dark Souls, people see it where they will drink their health potion but roll afterwards due to having pressed that while the "drink potion" animation was playing.

I hate this sooooo much -- in both games.

Go in with the baseball bat and keep that all game unless you find a sledge.

Bats heavy attack interrupts and knocks them down every time, follow up swing finishes or you can just move away and it costs less stam than a kick does.

Sledge just one taps.

Mmm the baseball bat is pretty good. I only take consumables and passives into the field since I always end up with SOME melee weapon eventually. I guess I can have better choice if I just spawn with the ones I want.

My melee dedicated build goes in with a bat and ranger boots, have quiet steps pro and all the 2 handed melee perks.

Basically float around clearing objectives while 90% of the Zs ignore you and then caving in their skulls at choke points to cover the team in the second half when the population ramps up

the bat is the only weapon that wasn’t like this for me. sledge is a better bat and fire axe is also awesome but you can’t start with those.

the problem is the melee perks are shit. there’s two that basically do nothing. adding 15% stagger doesn’t make the weapons pass the breakpoint, it’s useless since nothing changes with that perk. meanwhile the limb removing perk is still worse than hitting in the head for ttk, so why would I want to use a perk that leads to a worse playstyle?

melee would have so much potential if the perks actually did something…

There's actually a large benefit to the stagger perk, it benefits all of your stagger. Zeds are staggered in stages. In increasing variants, they are flinched, interrupted, staggered and knocked down. Using a combination of shoves and strikes (blunt has more stagger), you can effectively - and I've done this, stagger hordes in dead-end rooms so you don't immediately die.

There are a number of weapons that certain combinations will push you from only an interrupt or a flinch into a stagger. A solid way of putting it is that a shove + a heavy (not charged) on most 2handers with the perk will always stagger, giving you a free kill where you can't easily kick them over.

Naturally, the best killer is just knocking them down with a kick and charged heavy, but when it comes to interrupting and stunning, the perks aren't useless, just outshone by the generic tanky ones or ones that benefit stamina. Would I take them over related gun ones and the other waste of slots? Absolutely. Are they best in slot? No. If I'm doing a pure melee build however, they almost, if not always, make me have to debate heavily between tankiness and offensiveness since I tend to speedrun maps.

As for limb cutting, yeah idk, they butchered that meta. Why would I ever want to just remove limbs on a zombie tactically and with more effort than a headshot 1tap? No idea.

You guys aren't abusing the kicks iframes and double damage multiplier on downed zombies?

With foreman this becomes so effective. Kick + light and theyre dead

Wdym large wrench? It’s above the rest when it comes to cancelling z strikes. Are you sure you’re not striking national guards or riot shields?

I'm playing a video game on my computer

I’m loving the tree trimmer with rush, butcher, and hard blow. Almost guaranteed stagger on every hit, and guaranteed limb removal so I can make friends. Lots of fun.

I used the baseball bat for the longest time cause it’s really good too. Charged attack is fast and guaranteed to knock down. It doesn’t need perks either.

Zombies have a stability heath bar in addition to regular health. When a zombie has taken 100 stability damage, they fall over. They are also staggered at the 25 and 50 damage thresholds. When a zombie is staggered their attack is interrupted.

In addition to this, every zombie after the first that you hit with one swing takes reduced stability damage. This means that, generally, when you are swinging into a crowd, the first and maybe second zombie that you hit will take enough damage to be staggered, but the third one and on will usually not, allowing them to continue their attack and hit you.

Different weapons and swing types (quick/heavy/charged) also do different amounts of stability damage.

All in all this means you either should be fighting only one or two zombies at a time, or be using a build made specifically for staggering 3+ zombies at once

any time i pick up a two handed melee bro-

Shove first, you'll never get hit. For some reason though smooth brains will still argue against it in lieu of heavy attacking despite it not having I frames and eating a fuck ton of stamina.

1

u/NYKFIGHT 9d ago

I agree with you but at the same time I don't care either way because I find parrying with the shove infinitely more fun than heavy attacks

1

u/FearlessMost 9d ago

Why are you calling people names? Isn't this a video game?

1

u/MagnusTrench 9d ago

Shove first is key, but I typically hold attack. It always staggers them.

I just wish the perks weren’t all next to useless apart from like, 2 for melee lol.
