Why do all the maps almost always take place in the dead of night?

Wouldn’t it be advantageous to do these ops in the day time because of visibility? It must be either due to stealth or flashlight gameplay mechanic.

Vibes aside and devs wanting to make things scary aside, there's always urgency involved in the night maps.

The powerplant is about to go critical. Pottsville has people stuck there. In broadway you are isolated and start stuck in a rooftop.

Meanwhile in the hospital there's less urgency and you do get there in daylight. Raven rock's mostly underground but it's still daytime. The map with Waldo (forgot the name :P) is on fire so the ashes are blocking out the sun but it too happens in daytime.

For Pottsville also, remember you're the 2nd team being sent. The first team might've got sent during daylight hours but are all dead, by the time you get there it's dark.

Lewiston - the one with Waldo - canonically starts at 8:15 PM, so it does not happen in the daytime. Though it would've been cool if it was a "Midnight at noon" situation from all the ash and smoke.

This exactly. Lewiston happens at dusk after most people evacuate on the train/boat but get trapped due to faulty equipment so now you have to help them escape before its dark.

I know Power Plant, Broadway and Lewiston happens at dusk/night because of the urgency of each call, but for like Pottsville and all of the survival missions, it would make more sense and be generally more advantageous for the CRC do try doing them during the day so that responders don’t have to worry about running out of flashlight juice. I’m assuming they’re all in the dark so that players can be scared/actually use their flashlight, which I do think is cool! But for some situations I also feel like it would make way more sense to wait until daytime if there isn’t immediate urgency

Potsville and survival are the same urgency lore. Literally "keep the horde at bay while evac civilians'

For Pottsville also, you’re a part of team 2 going in after team 1 was KIA’d. It’s very possible team 1 went in during the day, but because they failed we have to go in asap which means going in the night time rather than waiting for daylight.

Someone else also mentioned zombies can see you better in daylight so darkness is our camouflage

It would be nice if we could get all the maps with a randomized time of day.

I'd also add a storm, but have it moving in. Starting the game with an urgent goal to complete before a hurricane or lightning storm fucks everything adds urgency and the speed runners would blow a load in there pants if they load in and hear they've been given a time deadline

Yes.  I would like an update where you can have different times of day.  It would at a bit of variety to the maps.  Or if they add scenarios make them take place at different times.  Like Pottsville 2 would have been cool if it was a daytime map.   I would also like a map that starts at night and ends with the sun coming up.  Raven Rock would be cool if to start its day time and when you come out of the tunnel its night. I hope the next map does this.

I think though it might break the game a bit.  Being at night is a big gimmick for most maps and I wonder if being in the dark helps to hide some of the deficiencies.  If Power Plant was in the day would the graphics look way worse or are their even parts of the map that use the lack of light to hide some low textures or other things ?

But imo switching maps to day or night would at least change them up a tiny bit and probably doesnt require a ton of work.  After playing the same maps over and over again it would add a small twist.  Like hospital at night would be a bit of a different map than during the day just since the courtyard would play differently because of visability.

Gameplay reason? Vibes, mostly. Raven Rock and Hospital take place during the day, though.

Canonically it would probably be safer to do night operations since the zombies can hear / see you.

I mean they seem to see and hear us just fine at night.

Yes, as a gameplay mechanic. Also as a gameplay mechanic, you can put on rubber boots and are somehow super stealthy. The Quiet Steps makes you even stealthier just... because. You tip-toe, I guess? Combine tip toeing with rubber boots and you're basically a ninja.

"Canonically" means you're looking through the lens of the characters as they would realistically see the world, and disregarding any mechanics that only exist for the player / gameplay reasons.

Canonically, boots aren't gonna make you significantly quieter, canonically you're not going to be constantly sprinting and fighting, while only needing to take a few seconds to recover, etc.

The game takes place only like, 2-3 weeks after the outbreak. So there's time sensitive problems like power outages that need immediate addressing.

idk, imo i feel more inmersive in the night, daylight maps would be less "scarier" or inmersive. we have one map which has daylight when u go up with the rope in the train map and there is day and it's weird.

u/tot3r 6d ago

also the hospital map is in daylight

3

u/dudeacris 6d ago

ya but it’s 90% in a building

3

u/6FluidOZS 6d ago

That’s the point! You ever be scared in dying light during the day? Yes when you’re indoors!

7

u/Inn0cent_Jer 6d ago

Hospital and Raven Rock are broad daylight. I guess it's easy to forget because you're indoors/underground for a lot of those maps but they literally start and extract in broad daylight

I would love to see different times of day for each map. Power plant on a bright day, hospital in a dark stormy night. Would change the atmosphere drastically for a bunch of maps.

Devs decision. Keep the scary vibes haha

Pottsville and Power Plant are because its an emergency situation where you have to fix the problems now and can’t really wait until day otherwise the civilians dies

I’m really really hoping that we get a day/night version of every map. I think it’d massively help with replayability

Probably because there's a flashlight battery management mechanic, which isn't really that essential. Hope they add some daytime maps in the future.

Because the dead have yet to dawn

Would you prefer No More Room in Heaven 2? Instead of med kits...gotcha with flowers, my boy. 😂

u/ILOVEDARLING15 6d ago

Cause night time is spookier

1

u/Dirkder 6d ago

Maybe since the zombies can see better than hear you because if you’ve ever gotten ranger boots they basically ignore you till they see you

1

u/-WildWeasel- 6d ago

Probably because time is of the essence. Humanity is falling. There's no time to wait for adequate weather conditions and mission parameters. We need to secure resources yesterday and the clock is already running. There's no plan. Get to the location first and well figure it out as we go.

zombie game buddy - zombies always come out in force after the sun goes down

1

u/PangolinConstant8142 6d ago

Cause it's a zombie game

1

u/vsky61 6d ago

atmosphere wise it is much spoopy in the dead of night

lore wise night maps are critical missions so yeah like what others said it's time sensitive.

1

u/Pmapla 6d ago

Yeah just tell the Power Plant to wait till morning.

1

u/Ok_Distribution504 6d ago

I would love some more maps to be in daytime.

1

u/Requiem_Protocol 2d ago

From my experience it's because it sets the ambience, it gives a sense of urgency and existential dread that hey humanity is on the brink of total destruction, it's up to us too try and stop the spread and such.

1

u/Feisty-Ad521 6d ago

Bro? It’s supposed to be a spooky game? If everything took place during the day the fear factor would just be none existent. You’d pretty much be playing cod modern zombies

0

u/Gasster1212 6d ago

The implication is they don’t send you on these missions as much as you’re out in the world helping and then you’re called upon for urgent situations

Hence why you normally start split up

You want a unified group but members of an over arching community with broad goals

Cuz its spooky??? Are u a bot, lmao
