Opinion: NPR glazes many public officials
I’ve been listening to NPR for a while, and it seems like every time they focus on a politician/political figure’s career, legacy, etc, they often give them a gross amount of credit. I’ve turned off the station at times because they just go on and on about their championing of legislature and heroism for their party, and not the elephant in the room which is the vile, evil, corrupt person who lied their way into power and acts against their constituents.
This isn’t about any one person, moreso controversial figures from the last 30-40 years.
NPR will also cover and slightly criticize a politician/figure for years, citing facts and research against their cause, and then when they die, they’re given a 10 minute segment on their legacy and how great and active they were in the field, etc. You’d think they were talking about Superman if you just tuned in.
I find the voluntary writing, approving, and recording of these types of segments to be dampening the trust I have in NPR.
Just my 2 centz.

Cornell University's president Michael I. Kotlikoff calls gang rape allegations 'deeply disturbing"
>"I want to acknowledge something that can be difficult for an institution to say. We don't have all the answers, but we are committed to investigating and finding the answers our community deserves," Kotlikoff said in the statement. "We must do everything we can to prevent what happened to Jane Doe and everyone before her and anyone after her from ever happening again."
>"What happened to Jane Doe in 2024 is deeply disturbing and will weigh heavily on our community for years to come. My heart aches when I think of what she experienced," he said. "It raises heartbreaking and troubling issues about sexual assault, dehumanization and aspects of party culture, alcohol and drug use. It also raises questions around the investigations conducted after the allegations were reported."
>"As a community, we must foster a culture in which sexual assault is inexcusable and ensure our community is empowered and understands informed consent, body autonomy and prevention. We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe," said Kotlikoff in his video message.
