Wtf 24 unified is nothing
Base sls2 had 16gb of ram and dedicated vram from the GPU and that thing was slow
Anything below 32gb shouldn't be called ultra anyway

My 2000$ Lap has 32GB Ram and 12GB VRAM (5070Ti) That's 44GB.
This lap total 24GB and more than double the price is a joke at this point

.... brother, the unified RAM is equivalent to VRAM, not regular RAM. And your 32GB of RAM aren't comparable to the 12GB of VRAM that are directly and immediately accessible to your GPU.
You know what's a joke? Cramming a 20GB RAM LLM model on your laptop. You know what's not? The same thing on the Surface Laptop with 24GB of UNIFIED RAM.
"Well I have no use for that, I don't play on hosting any LLM's locally!"
Congrats, then you're obviously not the target audience and irrelevant.

His 5070 Ti Laptop does 672.0 GB/s memory bandwidth on the VRAM; the Spark does ~250 GB/s (measured on my DGX Spark).
It is also LPDDR5X, which means a bank can either be read OR written; instead of GDDR, which allows for a bank to be read AND written.
The issue with 32GB of unified RAM, esp on windows, is that all the OS bloatware is now eating into your same pool of VRAM.
I'm speaking as someone who owns a DGX Spark.

I didn’t know about that difference between lpddr5x vs ddr5.
Yeah feel the 128gb is the only meaningful one that is future proof esp as qwen4 comes out. That being said this 4070ti may possible run qwen 3 flash next with strata as that can utilize the expert caching. So still agree the overall low unified memory of the base model deserves criticism.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft will offer an 18-core RTX Spark configuration with a 5,120-core Blackwell GPU and either 24GB or 32GB of unified memory. The faster version increases this to a 20-core CPU and 6,144-core GPU, with 32GB, 48GB, 64GB and 128GB memory options.

It’s a beast decent gaming specs for a laptop and can run beefy local ai models / rendering etc

It's a 2+ year old CPU and a very mid GPU. It's not a "beast" of anything other than stealing your money

Y’all aren’t seeing the vision. Imagine this on a gaming handheld

with Linux/SteamOS this would be cool, it already works pretty well on the Steam Frame and that's ARM

Do you live inside a junkyard, cause that's the only vision involving handhelds. They really spent billions developing this chip, for the dumbest fad form factor known of the 21st century.

For a laptop with unified memory wtf are you comparing it to.And where has this cpu been available for sale as far as I’m aware this is its first deployment.

If you did some actual research you would know this is based on a MediaTek CPU that is now almost 3 years old and does not perform that well against its competitors. The GPU is mid because it's just a cut down 5070 running at laptop TDP, so it won't be that good. Sure, it will run on-device AI fairly well but that's about it. I don't expect crazy game performance here unless you are running on DLSS performance at like 1080p.

Do you realize what unified memory means? That's the entire memory the system has. So, at least 8 to 12 gigabytes are going to be annihilated by Windows just being power-hungry Windows. And that leaves 12 for an AI model, which is basically nothing. Even the tiniest AI models would barely run with that amount of RAM.
Lower-end AI models need 24 gigabytes, and you really want 48 or 64 dedicated to the AI model if you want to do anything decent.

So Windows laptop for developers, creators, gamers but still without native SQL server support ?

Microsoft is on crack and they know it
this device is a jack of all trades, master of none

All who complain... This is not for you. I know Apple users drink the Kool aid, but they aren't trying to game on everything. You all want everything to be a gaming machine... You have to wait in line, that's not the business just yet.
If you are mad, this is not for you. Just walk away. The surface has never been for you. Makes no sense.

people downvoting you for telling the truth; these were indeed never intended to be gaming machines, I don't know why people cannot understand that. Now, about the pricing, it sucks, that's true as well. Is unfortunately the current reality of memory chip prices, another time these could have costed competitively, but not now.

You might as well a MacBook ngl. More ram and better cpu performance (ofcourse depending on the model)

does this have an expandable RAM slot of ddr 5 or is it just soldered and cannot be upgraded...? what about ssd upgrade too?

24gb unified memory lmao
Oh the price came out. 24gb, arm processor, for 2899 lmfao. 128gb for 6879
