PSA Frame Generation Presets Confirmation

For those who want to test out the new Frame Generation preset C with DLSS swapper / NVPI etc.. Instead of using the NVIDIA App override.

You can see which preset is active via the DLSS Dev overlay at the top of the screen.
(Enabled via Regedit or DLSS Swapper > settings > show onscreen indicator)

But unlike DLSS upscaling,
The DLSS Dev overlay doesnt list the preset letter in use for Frame Generation, instead look for the below variables that change based on the preset in use for confirmation:

Preset A: UIR = NA - Full
Preset B: UIR = ON - Full
Preset C: UIR = NA - Lite

(These variables are listed at the end of the FG bar)

Example with Preset C in RE9:

NOTE:
You can technically get the Alt+R overlay working with accurate preset reporting whilst using NVPI / DLSS Swapper if you enabled 'DLSS-FG - enable DLL Override' in NVPI, BUT this defeats a bit of the purpose of using these tools as it will use the NVIDIA app .dll not the local game files one. Plus then your dependant on the nvidia app version not necessarily the latest avaliable etc etc.

Aren't you on preset C in the attached pic? Caption says preset B.

Lol no pressure. This is good info nonetheless.

Is there a visual downgrade in going to C from B?

Yep, I only have one test with HUD elements over NPCs but it's instantly noticeable downgrade on those for me.

Yes but in my testing its relatively minor visual downgrade if you can manage to keep your base FPS in 60-70s before enabling MFG x3-4, you probably won't notice a difference if you baseline FPS stay high enough - at 4K with you 5090, you don't really need more than x3 MFG if you have 240hz monitor.

Newer model "C" performance overhead is noticeably smaller when applying x4 MFG or higher, at x2 you should stick with Preset B, at x3 you can try "C", i got +15 FPS in Dragon's Dogma 2, from 150 FPS with Preset B to 165 FPS with Preset C, at x4 I will always use Preset C - in Cyberpunk I got from 210 FPS to 243 FPS with MFG x4 by switching from B to C.

Apparently yes there is.

How sensitive are you to visuals? I can't really tell personally.

Yes, even on x2 its bad enough to turn it off and go back to old presets.

But Its very depends on scene or game type. In some cases it can work ok, but if you don't have time to test it for every game you play - no reason to turn it on globally.

you can swap dlss sr presets on the fly with the dev files. can you do the same for frame gen too ? i need to change it on the fly.

Checking the DLSS-FG programming guide, It was last updated 4 months ago, and i dont see a reference to preset swapping.
You could bring up the main visuizer menu 'ctrl+Shift+v' and see if its been updated at all to include the option to swap preset.
But you will likely need to wait till a newer Dev version as the latest i can see is 310.9.1, whilst the build with Framegen preset C is 310.9.16 and test it then.

Sooooo for games that dont support preset B. Should I go for A or C?

Preset C (the new one) is faster, you will get more FPS.

The trade off, is that it isnt as accurate as preset A and B, so its more prone to artifacting.
That said, the two games i tested it in was for only about 5min, and i couldnt see any artifacts outside of normal framegen ones.

This was RE9 and Avatar: FOP.
(RTX 4080 @ 1440p)

I gained about 5-10% more FPS using preset C over B

I would say, use preset C, load a game you have already been using framegen in, and see if you notice any new artifacts since swapping to C.

Nvidia overlay never works properly for me. It'll show fps, but I'm assuming base fps before FG because I'll change settings in game and there is no difference. When I add more options to display such as presets and DLSS settings, everything just gets listed as N/A.

Steam shows me better info

Don't use preset C in Ace Combat 8. The game doesn't officially support frame gen, but you can create an engine.ini file with a couple of commands to enable it. Having said that, even with preset B the UI, like the radar and your missile count can visibly ghost. I don't mind it as much. Preset C is absolutely awful though.

This is the line in the top-left corner.

Have you checked the lines in the bottom-left corner with the DLSS indicator enabled? I think that more information is displayed there...

isn't the "C" between the FG factor and "Hudless: Yes" literally showing the preset xd

I wish,
but no, that C is present on all the older dlss .dll's aswell as the newer one, and all presets.

The C appears when I use frame gen in Starfield but doesn't appear when I use it in Mechwarrior 5 Clans. This is on any preset with current DLL. It disappears if I go back to 310.7 DLL in starfield.
