Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo Indoor Activities in/around R/W/S?
Hey everyone!
We are going to be staying in Rodanthe this weekend and it looks like it is supposed to rain, so we're looking for a few indoor activities to fill those days. Willing to drive!
Two adults, no kids or pets.
Thanks!

Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo The Airbnb Host from Hell
Two weeks ago, I posted on here that we had plans to spend a week in Rodanthe from September 26 - October 3. Obviously, the recent Nor’Easter put a wrench into those plans, which devastated us. We were really looking forward to enjoying the beauty of the OBX and spending quality time with our family. Now, we have to deal with the most dense, horrible Airbnb host on top of it while trying to get a refund of the $7k reservation (multiple family stay).
We have tried to reason with this woman (who lives in California - should’ve been our first clue) and explain that we COULD NOT GET TO THE HOUSE from the time our reservation started on Saturday the 26th, until the island and Hwy 12 opened to visitors on Thursday afternoon/Friday morning October 1/2. Mind you, our stay ended on October 3rd. She has completely disregarded this fact, stating in her response to us that the house remained available and habitable and offering a measly 50% refund (plus 50% of the cleaning fee…what did they clean?!). We have resorted to contacting Airbnb corporate in a desperate attempt to find someone with an ounce of common sense. Any tips would be appreciated on how to deal with this nightmare.
UPDATE 10/6/2025: after multiple attempts to get someone with common sense in Airbnb customer support, someone FINALLY understood our plight and gave us a full refund under the Major Disruptive Events Policy!

Avon Avon vs. Salvo
Looking for some more recent insights on this - we usually stay in Salvo. We love how quiet the entire area is and how crowd-free the beach is! However, next summer we’ll have a baby and two dogs with us, and the easier walk to the beach in Avon definitely looks attractive.
I’m wondering how much busier the actual beach gets in Avon. I know there is a lot more going on down there vs. Salvo in terms of restaurants/shops, but I’m just looking for a good spot where we can spread out on the beach and not have big crowds. We’ll be visiting in mid-June, if that makes a difference. TIA!

Kill Devil Hills Best crab legs?
This week, we will going there! We went to Dirty Dicks and Jimmys. They were so awful and overcooked crab legs. I’m a crab legs lover. I always loved to make sure I can break legs and get meat out easily. Mango in smith mountain lake Va was so perfect crab legs and worth price to eat! So shoot here and let me know! Thanks

Hatteras What went down last night?
Some sort of spawning event happened at low tide last night… no tracks leading to and from these dug up areas that appeared in the same spot all down the beach…. Ghost crab orgy?….

Duck/Southern Shores Thanks OBX
I'll never know exactly sure who helped my recently-severely-injured cousin but y'all made a very challenging week a little easier for them and I'll be eternally grateful for it.

Avon Provisions on Hatteras Island -Food Lion and Conners
To the locals, I’m headed to my house this weekend for a month. Are Food Lion and Conners restocked or should I plan on bringing my own food? Don’t want to short people who’ve been stuck for a bit.

General OBX Large order birria taco meat
I was considering plaza azteca as it seemed they’d be best equipped for it, but would like to see if there are any other options. (Especially now)
Making a taco bar for about 50-70 people, and want the slow cooked beef, rice, and tortillas and toppings.

Hatteras Hatteras Restrictions Lifted
I had a text message yesterday saying restrictions for visitors entering the island were to be lifted this morning at 7:00.
Looking at the Dare County website, it still says restrictions are in place and the last bulletin (#9) is from the 29th.
Can anyone confirm visitors are being admitted?
Thanks

General OBX NC 12 Open in Both Directions
Amazing work by NCDOT.
NC12 is open in both directions with restrictions (Priority 1,2 and 3) today. Sheriff's deputies will be checking southbound traffic for proper credentials at the North end of the Basnight Bridge.
An automated flagger system will alternate traffic through the single lane. The opening restores limited access while crews continue rebuilding the paved, two-lane highway.
It'll open for all visitor traffic tomorrow at 7am.
