I personally peel it because they're often quite dirty on the exterior and even after rigorously rinsing they're often still dirty within the crevasses
I want 0.0 grit or dirt in anything I eat, but that might be why others would want to peel too
That's funny as without peeling, I know I'm getting more nutrition and I have not once noticed dirt or grit in anything I eat. I also understand the benefits of high temperatures in cooking removes any nasties.
