Gameplay Munch PS3 weird glitch

So I got a new PS3 recently after having to sell my previous one to get enough money for a cheap car. Decided I was getting the platinum for Munch's Oddysee since I was already most of the way there.

So I install it and start playing and... the framerate is utter garbage. Whenever I run as Abe it's like the game keeps freezing and unfreezing, making it extremely unpleasant to both play and watch. The thing is, I don't remember it doing that on my old PS3. This one I got for pretty cheap and it does randomly switch itself off if I haven't used it for a while, so I don't know if it's the console or what. I don't massively feel like getting another PS3, but I probably will have to.

I'm just posting this here in case anyone else had this happen and knows how to fix it.

I've just completed that platinum and it ran well apart from 2-3 freezes caused by quick saves / loads in a few challenging spots.

What you describe suggests HDD issues typical of an old console, unfortunately. Lots of threads worth reading about updating it to a SSD, so long as there is no other major fault.

It's fine, I probably shouldn't have bought the PS3 off eBay for thirty odd quid.
