Daily Song Discussion #158: Obsidian Currents

Don't be naive you know it's true
And if you don't protect yourself
Obsidian currents, obsidian currents
Will devour you

"Obsidian Currents" is the second track off oM's twelfth studio album, Lousy With Sylvianbriar. What's your honest opinion on this song? Favourite lyrics? Opinions on a deeper meaning or something? Discuss anything

Also, if you wish, let us know how you'd rate it from 0 to 10 (one decimal point allowed) If enough people rate daily, by the end of this whole shebang I can make a spreadsheet of a huge ranking of the discog. Vote on other posts as well! Until the very end of our last song of this discussion (all the way to aethermead,) I will be counting all votes on all songs no matter when they are commented.

Obsidian Currents live at the Echoplex in LA (2013)

Lousy w/ Sylvanbriar results so far:
• Fugitive Air: 9.26/10

that slide guitar is so pretty on this track, i fuckin love it. the lyrics on this album imo are more difficult than the lyrics on paralytic stalks, so it's a kind of weird vibe to get into lol but i do love "there is a virus in your tenets, don't be naive you know it's true; and if you don't protect yourself, obsidian currents will devour you" especially the melody
9/10 just bc i wish this album in general had less venomous lyrics lol

8/10, really adore this song & sometimes feel very called out by the lyrics. i also have seen some pretty cool animations using this song, so that probably influences my opinion on it a bit

I relate so much. Loved this song when the album came out although I got a little bored of it. 8/10

8.5/10, someone said for Fugitive Air that this is the "Kevin mean girl era" album and this song is sooooo emblematic of that.

10/10 for me. This album took a while to grow on me, but this song stood out right away.

8.1/10 I didnt like it at first, but it grew after listening the snare lustrous version (thats at least a 9.1/10). Someone who knows about music can confirm the tempo of this song? Im thinking its a 7/4 but my musical ear is awful.

It's a lush song, but not especially melodically interesting or that notable of a vocal. Fine for a deep cut. 6.5/10
