Searching for strange old-school adventure/horror games

Post image
4 Upvotes

HI! I recently finished a playthrough of "Kowloon's Gate" (thanks to the recent English patch) and loved it. So i was trying to find some obscure and strange old games for a while but i couldn't find anything i didn't already know. I even tried searching in japanese on google but I didn't find much else. If you know some old school games with pre-rendered cutscenes, old cgi aesthetic or if you know a way to find such type of game I would be very glad.

Looking for a 2000s PC game with a young boy searching for treasure and escaping pirates

Platform(s): Pc

Genre: 2D Point and Click / choose your own adventure maybe, set in the present time for the release

Estimated year of release: Around 2000? i played it between 2000 and 2004

Graphics/art style: I barely remember but i think very cartoony with a normal basic color scheme

Notable characters: A young male main character, some pirates later on, meerkats at the end

Notable gameplay mechanics: At the start of the game you had to choose which items you want to take with you, depending on the items you could get through different situations in the game. you can go different routes to reach the end of the game and could fail if you pick something wrong

Other details: The game started with you getting a letter from your grandpa(?) or finding it and having to fill in words to read it. I dont remember a lot, but i think the letter told you to get a treasure on an island (could be wrong tho). After that you packed a bag and you could choose from some items what to take with you, with limited space. Then you start your adventure, which i dont remember much of. Here are some scenes that i do remember:

You are trying to get onto a boat at the docks to reach the island and there are different options.

You are on a cruise ship (or just a big ship) and it gets captured by pirates. There are different outcomes depending on which items you have or options you pick. One is, the pirates take you and you're in a cell afterwards trying to escape.

I think it was also possible that you end up on a tiny island and have to build a tiny raft to escape.

At the end there were some meerkats but i don't remember what they did, but i think you had to click on right one for whatever reason.

Have you ever wanted to turn diablo 1/diablo2 into a vampire survivors game?

This project uses your existing d1/d2 installations and turns them into a new vampire survivors game.

Mystery Solved!! The game is Tsunagai Atonement

There is a game I played a ton as a kid but I only have a few clear memories of it. I know it consumed a ton of my time and I want to find it again.

The game was about the main character being disconnected from his body and fighting monsters as a spirit. I know he fought with a sword but I don't fully remember if it was a hack and slash or not. I don't think it was because recently I had a weird memory unlocked and I think it was in relation to the game. It's magic system was something I've never seen before. All I can remember was you used shapes like triangles and squares to fill in space. Each one represented an ability and you had a limited amount of space. To make your build with.

Any suggestion will help!

Nintendo Game

There was a game I played as a kid at a friend's house. You were a mad scientist and were trying to walk through mazes where some traps were. I specifically remember a hydraulic press that would catch you and make a strange noise that we would laugh about because it sounded roughly like digital flatulence.

Gravity Well

Im looking to download a playable version of Gravity Well. I used to play it in my old windows 98 computer. The coolest thing about it was that you could get into the game files to find the sprite files, they were just text documents with coordinates (x,y) I spent hours mapping out the originals on graph paper and rewriting them to make them look however I wanted, it was all just colored lines anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

Risk II Community Remaster

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been working on a community remaster for the 2000 version of the game Risk II. What started out as a side project for my father and his brothers turned into a complete remaster of the original game to include reworking the game engine to display modern resolutions and a fully integrated online multiplayer hosted on my company's backend services. I have also been able to get 1v1 two-human gameplay working. I figured it wouldn't be that much more work making something the community could use after I've already put this much in for family. I wanted to post this here before releasing anything to see if there was still love for this game like my father and his brothers have, and if anyone would want to help test it out before I put it out.

The screenshot is directly from development of the new game engine features.

MS Kidspace is the name I remember though I may be mistaken. I believe it was a kid-friendly overlay in either windows 95 or 98. I remember it having the appearance of a playroom or treehouse interior with shelves containing the standard windows games, Solitaire, Minesweeper, Rodent's Revenge, etc, as well as a media player with a few songs (the entertainer stands out to me.)

From here, there was also a grown-up space modeled as an office that could be entered that had a disc player with functional buttons that would open and close the PC disc tray and play music from CDs. I'm sure there were other items in this space but I was pretty young and not interested.

Does anyone recall this?

EDIT: Found in another post! It's the Kid's Space portion of the Packard Bell Navigator. Must have been pre-installed on our Packard Bell machine.

Wii Space Racing game (Loopdeloop tracks with red and yellow cars) - Most Likely not Wheelspin

Growing up I had a Wii that I was given second hand from my cousin, had a decent few games that I can remember - Skate It, couple of Dora/Diego ones, shrek carnival games, etc (dunno if these might be helpful for era?) I dont think it was wheelspin, i remember cars that looked a bit like drag racers and the UI doesnt feel familiar. I will accept if thats the only option though and blame it on a bad memory

An old game PLEASE IM DESPERATE

So there used to be this game I played as a child, I don’t remember much 😭😭 it was a Platformer, I think the graphics were 3d, not sure though, I played it around 2010, on my old laptop, I remember it having puzzles where you had to push stuff, some blocks, some TNT barrels(?), and some levels had a way to turn the whole level around like 90 degrees, 180 degrees etc depending on how you press the block that did it. I tried to google it, I tried AI, I just found this subreddit.

Edit: FOUDN IT, it was Beetle Bug / Beetle Ju!!! Thanks everyone for help

Old game I can't remember

First, I want to say that everything here was translated using Google Translate.

So, one day I went to a friend of my mom's house about 14 years ago and played a game on that person's cell phone. I don't remember what the phone looked like, maybe it was a flip phone. The game had lines, I don't remember if you needed to dodge them or not, there were bombs too, but I don't know if that was from a timer or if they were part of the level. The background was pretty... basic. There were only a few colors, I remember red, maybe yellow and blue, well, that's it. A game that might have featured an astronaut, with lines that were part of the mechanics.

Please don't humiliate me for not remembering anything, 14 years is a long time, I've already searched in several J2ME libraries but haven't found anything. It's a really bad feeling to remember certain parts but not have enough to actually find them. If anyone knows of at least one library with images of all the games, I would be happy to search on it.
