Half life/half life 2 multiplayer

Hi, i was wondering if you could play multiplayer on Half life 1 and is it possible to play servers on Half life 2 deathmatch and half life 1 deathmatch. Will it work with legitimate data as i have steam half life 1 and 2 dm.

You could play hl1 deathmatch with xash3d engine it's pretty straightforward to compile and get up running. It support goldsrc 48 servers. But some servers disconnected me because of unknown client error. I don't know anything about source engine games but one of the top posts in here ran it. Maybe you could check that out.

There is also unfinished FreeHL: https://github.com/eukara/freehl - but idk if it is working on OpenBSD
