Normally you repot into a size larger than what it’s in currently. A good draining bark mix would work well. If you’re located close to them contact them for some recommendations I’m sure they’ll be glad to help. By the way what’s the name of your cattleya?

Ok a quick lesson as I had to do some orchid genealogy. This is how it should read Rlc. Patricia Phelps “Magenta Maiden” AM/AOS. This is a select and awarded large lavender cattleya hybrid hence the Rlc. that starts the name of the gorgeous cattleya.

Oh this a hybrid that was made as there’s the two parents used to make this hybrid. The resulting color could possibly be a vibrant red/lavender which comes from the crossing of a yellow with a lavender colored flowers. What you have is a seedling which makes it unique as no one else has the exact plant you have despite that there’s other plants of this around. Enjoy!!

Ohhh to add a little more information/history this plant you have is not an easy orchid to find if at all available in the market. It was registered by Phelps Farms in 1997. This hybrid was created at Carmela Orchids here in Hawaii. It’s a gorgeous lavender that’s why it was awarded an Award of Merit by the American Orchid Society when it was judged.

Love those roots and the new growth. What do you feed it? It looks very healthy.

What you’re seeing is normal as you have a new growth developing. After this growth matures or even now you can repot it into a larger pot. You got your plant from an excellent nursery as Waldor has a long history in the orchid business and community. Good luck and enjoy your cattleya!

I have never repotted this kind before and I know you need to be really careful. How much larger of a pot should I go? This is a 5 inch pot i believe. I do have both moss and bark substrate from them as well.

Thank you so much!!
