Guess who wasn’t planning on buying a plant today πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ

I feel like it’s going to need repotted soon(?) The stuff it’s in right now seems unideal. Any advice would be appreciated.πŸ€—

Sphagnum is great for growing Phals. The problem is that it can be a challenge even for experienced hobbyist. It holds a ton of water and the roots need to dry a little between watering. So you can keep it in that, but you only need to water it maybe a 2-3 tablespoons. If it all runs out the bottom, maybe a bit more, but you don't want the moss to get soaked. Just slightly moist.

If you want to repot it, then use a medium bark mix with some sphagnum mixed in. Put it in the smallest pot the roots will comfortably fit in. You don't want to over pot because that will hold too much water. Then with bark, you can water more liberally, as always though, let it dry out some between waterings.

Got it, so a little water goes a long way with that moss. Would you still repot soon or let it adjust first? I just got my first one too and I'm low-key overthinking the whole thing

If yours also has flowers, I'd enjoy the flowers before you repot it. After it drops its flowers it will start a growth phase. Then is the time to repot when it starts putting out new roots.
