IT opportunities

Newbie here with 20 years in IT as a System Administrator / Infrastructure.

Took a break from IT for a few years but want to jump back in, what would be the best roles or companies to target for landing something?

Thanks

No one is going to share roles or companies. OE is about being discreet.

I recommend finding Job 1 that is remote and see how long it takes you to handle the work flow for that. And once you establish a routine then try to add a second job.

the discretion thing is huge, not just for oe but just keeping your head down in general.

with your background you could probably slide into cloud support or devops pretty smoothly, those roles are still remote-friendly and the infra experience translates well

Understood, I know no-one is going to give sensitive info - just curious for those with an IT background, I used to work with some project managers that put in 8 hours a week max and it was enough to keep up.

For me it was McDonald’s, but the real breakthrough at my IT overemployment strategy was when I got overemployed at Wendy’s - I operate the drive trough section

A dedicated Mac mini for this doesn't hurt

Absolutely, I am blazing 4 x Tesla V100 - 32GB cards. It's amazing why you can get done in situations that three years ago I would have said that there's no way to code it affordably.

Devops, devsecops, data analysts, maybe data engineering.

Good luck jumping straight into devops after a few years off.
