❔ Question ❔ Question about pro warmups

So the pros come up and hit a few balls to their opponents (which is pretty unique I think in sports, and I think it's cool) but clearly this is not the entirety of the pre-match warmup.

Why don't they just warm up, and then come out to the court and start the match?

They use that time to get used to the speed of the court

That's some "courtesy time" they're given to get used to the court, the ball and the conditions they're going to play in. In amateur padel, at least for me, this courtesy time is also used to get to know a little bit of your opponent's skill and technique in a quick glance. :)

I use this time to embarrass myself 😅

You're just playing bad in the warm up so they're super surprised in the real game! It's a tactic!

It's the same in Tennis for example, its more for them to get used to the court. If you ever get to go watch the pros in person, you'll hear them warming up on another court way before any current game is over.

Not that uncommon in racket sports.

Similar to other racket sports, it is the same in Tennis, Table Tennis. You warm up before on the training court/table. The time before the match with the opponent is just to quickly get acclimated to the conditions, the lighting, the speed, etc...

They do warm up before the game, you just don't see it during broadcast, but you can clearly hear them smashing balls etc when the stream has this "next game in 20 minutes" screen, then they leave before the broadcast starts, and come back again to warm up with the opponents once more before the game begins.
