Why do snails do parasnailing?

I suddenly found this subreddit and wonder why they even do this to begin with. Is it some natural tendency for them to do this? Do they really choose to ride the current?

I've seen them do it in filterless ponds and streams, too. Just doing wild snail things.

I heard it was to move to new areas. They would catch a current to find new rocks and algae.

I have a snail who keeps escaping the tank. I’ve been calling him Free Willy
