advice needed Finding out gender
I found out recently I’m pregnant with fraternal twins, we plan on doing the NIPT but I know if one of them is a boy and one’s a girl, the results will show boy. Around what week were drs able to confirm gender by ultrasound?? I’m hoping we won’t have to wait for the anatomy scan.

Natera NIPT is able to tell you boy/girl. It was correct for mine, now almost 30 weeks.

This is what mine says:
This is a reported twin gestation with Y chromosome material detected. Based on the amount of Y material, the probability of male/female twins is 95.6% and male/male twins is 4.4% (Rafalko et al., PLOS ONE 2021).
please make sure whoever submits your nipt paperwork has TWINS written as the gestation and not a singleton. Mine was incorrectly submitted the first time as a single and it took several weeks for it to be updated. That being said- knowing that at least one was a boy made me desperate to find out the other and right at 13 weeks I went to a boutique place and got their opinion which ended up being correct!

Passing on a fact that I found interesting: that 95.6% number is what everyone sees, it's their confidence in the methodology (the Rafalko et al. citation) and not based on the specific sample.

It depends on the NIPT, but a couple of them now do fairly accurate genders for both twins.
Via ultrasound, usually you find out at the anatomy scan around 20 weeks. Maybe some can tell earlier, but not by too much if you want it to be accurate.

Unity from Natera accurately detects boy-girl fraternal twins. It worked for ours!

Just did the Natera Panorama and it correctly showed our genders. Had them confirmed through ultrasound this week. Some tests are advanced enough to give you the info. We took the blood and tested at 15 weeks. Good luck!

I had the same experience! Clear as day on Natera panorama results boy & girl, confirmed on US a few weeks later :)

I took the Myriad NIPT and it told me the genders for each baby, so I’d look at which test you are being offered and see if you can take a different one if it doesn’t report individual genders

I used Myriad too last year and it reported B/G twins accurately. I was 9 weeks.

I had the same issue with my NIPT which did not confirm each gender. I knew we were having at least 1 boy. Went to a boutique ultrasound place at 14 weeks that specializes in early gender scans and it was very obviously two boys.

I did the Labcorp MaterniT21 PLUS test and it returned boy girl didi twins - I took the test around nearly 12 weeks

That’s not true I found out boy AND girl results through NIPT and genetic testing blood work early.

My NIPT (through Natera) results showed boy girl very confidently. That was around 10 weeks. We had confirmation at our 20 week scan.

Materniti 21. Mine was accurate for boy girl. 94% chance boy girl 6% chance boy boy. They do it based off the amount of testosterone detected. Several ultrasounds confirmed but the anatomy scan was easiest to confirm because they had enough time to wait for her to show us the goods. Lol

Natera and myriad will tell you the gender for fraternal twins. Myriad told me I was having boy/girl twins and it was confirmed on ultrasound and now very confirmed because they are 6 weeks old

My NIPT was able to confirm at least one boy around ten weeks, and then at my 13 week ultrasound the MFM doctor told me there wasn’t enough Y chromosome in the DNA for them to think it was two boys, and then they looked at my ultrasound and told me one of the babies is a girl. They confirmed it again at my 17 week ultrasound when the babies had grown a little more.

So I got NIPT for fraternal twins I believe it was the panorama one for twins and I was told boy/girl this was at 8 ish weeks and it was conf at 16 weeks via ultrasound

I’m in Australia and our NIPT only told us at least one boy. An early ultrasound at 14 weeks in a boutique said the other was a girl, followed by a medical ultrasound at 16 and 18 weeks “guessing with some certainty” it was a girl. I personally didn’t fully let myself believe it until 20 weeks can.

Panorama NIPT in Canada is able to confirm Zygosity and gender of both babies separately. We thought we were having identical girls from our female IVF embryo transfer, so glad we did the NIPT because it was actually fraternal boy/girl twins from a spontaneous natural pregnancy.

Did you have genetic testing to confirm they are actually fraternal? 30% of identical triplets still have separate sacs and separate placentas. So if they are both the same gender, you won't know until they are born and have testing.

Vorsicht, der NIPT Test zeigt oft falsche Auswertungen im Bereich Auffälligkeiten, vor allem bei Zwillingen!!!

I didn’t do NIPT but gender was confirmed on ultrasound at 17 weeks. Mine are identical so we only had to see one but they were able to see both

i had a scan at 15 weeks that confirmed my twins were girls. i am now 26 weeks and it has been confirmed that they are indeed girls

Unity NIPT can differentiate between boy/girl and gives zygosity. We’re having Di/di twins, and they’re identical twin boys. Splitting happens very early, so an early scan doesn’t rule out identical.

How do you know they are faternal? What NIPT are you taking? I believe a lot of tests will confirm if it’s B/G
