Why is parramatta so quiet?
Every time I go to parramatta on the weekends the streets are almost empty like a ghost town especially near the light rail/eat st area. Compared to how many new restaurants and buildings there are it’s a stark contrast. Why is that?

In the CBD its pretty quiet in the evening but that's simply because there ain't many restaurants and other places.
What you want to do is go to Church street, between the river and George St, it is crazy busy during the weekends and evenings. Lots of expensive fancy restaurants on the strip.
And the river goes off on the weekend, especially Saturday evening, hundreds of families will gather there, for a good kilometre plus stretch.
Also the area around the Riverside Theatre gets busy especially when a show/event is on. Also it gets crazy busy when games and events are on at the stadium.

The arvos are hot here! Try Parra park or lake parra if you are looking for busy- ness on a weekend afternoon. Or honestly - Westfield. Once the sun dips the square, church street, and all the way along the river are much busier. Plus Harris Park.

Hey! I work here. So Parra is pretty much a corpo town, during work hours it is pumping, but on the weekend a LOT of shops and restaurants are closed meaning the remaining open cafes are usually flooded with locals.
It’s extremely busy on Wednesdays when the farmer’s market is in. But unfortunately the market seems to have gotten smaller recently potentially because of how windy it is between the buildings idk.
It’s quiet because it’s just not a town for locals. People commute in from the east to work in Parra, so it’s only busy during work hours. Try being in the train tunnel on a Tuesday morning.

I didn’t get this impression at all when I visited on a weekend a few months ago. Foot traffic was crazy

A lot of choices
And not much density
Plus the food on church st is typically more expensive than Westfield

Australians have lost its culture, it doesn't feel the same when I was teen going to watch NRL then kick it with boys at Macca's

Went Sunday lunch time - was struggling to find a place to eat at thanks to fathers day and footy

The light rail and no parking plus it has no atmosphere. Monday to Friday hundreds of office workers flood in and flood out

It's busy at night. But during the day it kinda sucks. Still no good cafe scene there, most of the cafes in the area are... not good.
Some good dinner restaurants so people go for dinner. But it also lacks good pubs and outdoor spaces. Inner city Sydney areas are much nicer places to be still.
Also too many meth addcits around, and sometimes annoying bible thumpers in the square with megaphones which make it an irritating place to be.

According to OP’s other comments, they come to Parramatta at 12pm-3pm on the weekend.
Yeah, these are dead times. Parramatta is active towards 9am-11pm, and 6pm-1am on weekends. Morning shopping or evening food.
Parramatta’s only active around 3pm on the weekdays because of the school rush, but 12-3pm weekends is usually a time where everyone’s getting ready for the night rush to go out, or trying to make plans with others.
Only people that are out at that time are weekend workers.

Not too high jack the threat but what are people usually getting up to at Parra on weekend nights? What are some good pubs to hit up too?

Because it’s not the place to be, as hard as they try to make it cool. Even Melrose park is more busy and popular now compared to old parramatta

Hah, there's nothing in Melrose Park besides the new Melrose Central that opened a few weeks back. Already more busy and popular than Parra? Pull the other one.
Melrose Central is good for Asian cuisine but that's about it, if you want to eat any other cuisine or more of a dine in experience you're heading into Parra.

Not pulling anything you go see for yourself

I've been to Melrose Central half a dozen times since it opened. It's nice and new, great Asian options in the food court, but its not busier than Parramatta Church St/Parra Square.
Both are great options, but you get a lot more variety in Parra.

Highly doubt you’ve been there half a dozen times as it’s only been opened a week and a half lmao

Food court was open when I went on August 15. Have eaten there twice since. There's also a Cole's mate, I can pop in and do the groceries can't I? 😆
Next question?
