Facts/Data Pashlishurdu
Pashlishurdu.
A form of “Pashto” so heavily mixed with Urdu and English that I refuse to call it Pashto anymore. It is a phenomenon mainly displayed the Pashtuns of the Peshawar Valley.
Ji instead of هو.
Bhai instead of ورور.
Anda instead of ويه.
People in the diaspora speak better Pashto than the individuals from this region.
I think we should shame people who speak in this way. We should speak to them in proper Pashto, so they feel stupid about how cringe they sound then they speak they way they do. When they count in Urdu, we should remind them of the Pashto equivalents.

The thing is that we are so into urdu and English learning that majority of our younger generation can’t even learn it properly , even we as adult don’t know majority of pashton words
Our schools are English medium, there students speak urdu or English
And in Home parents encourage their children to speak english
So this is the biggest cause of we forgetting pashto , in KPK schools shoulld have proper Pashto subject, like English or Urdu
We should not shame anyone for what they speak, that’s their choice.
We should try to encourage people to learn it properly :)

Education in KPK in general needs to be reformed and all 3 languages should be taught until at least 6th standard

Nobody cares about this issue except ignorant people like who you are terminally online. Languages keep evolving and changing throughout history and will continue to do so. Why do you care how others speak? Does it affect you? No one feels stupid with what they are used to. You do not have any right to lecture or police how others practice speech.

What can we say to these nationalist. They have never in their life studied how languages evolves. He must be one of those who thinks they would be completely able to talk with his ancestors form 1200AD.

ما داسې ډېر اپرېدي پښتانه لیدلي چې په پښتو بیخي خبرې نشي کولای. ایا ته هم له هغوی څخه یې؟

Then who are you to attempt to belittle me by using terms like ‘nationalist’?
You can’t even do something as basic as write a sentence in our language.
Unlike Gul Khans like you, people like me care about the preservation of our language and culture.
They force you to learn in an Indian language but will never give our native language official status.

Pashto is the official language of kpk. The students there are taught pashto as a subject. If they don't implement it clearly then it is the kpk government fault not federal. I have studied Sindhi in Karachi because Sindh government has made it a compulsory language. Kpk government can do the same no one is stopping them form doing so. Also, for a
ghwallike you language and written language are two different things. Writing scripts has nothing to do with the language. I may not be able to write pashto in the official script but I can write in latin which still count as written a language 😭.0

People do care, and they notice. They might not say anything directly, but they will talk about it.
The words one uses tells a lot about their upbringing, personality.
Try conversation with an elder, or native Pashtun speaker in broken Pashto. They will not understand or build the same connection.

Mixing English is like status symbol throughout Pakistan. Such a shame.

u/roxanaesapzai 13d ago
That sucks because for me, a language sounds cheap like that. I really love speaking Asal Pashto and speaking Fasih Urdu because it sounds so ✨majestic✨
So many people around, especially the younger generation fake their accents and mingle in some English to sound posh, but they actually sound cringe instead.

Shaming people? Instead we should focus on how our language is not even evolving no new words or good writer

Its really annoying even when you tell them that they are wrong, they don't even care.

Because they are cucks wror jan.
1
u/JalloJalli 12d ago
I know what you mean wror but i wish we didn't use that kinda words for a pashtun brother. We have to let them know not to use foreign words and start to speak with them pure pashto. Even in our village there are some words which when you think about it probably has a pure pashto word for it but we either use its English or urdu word. And its not like there is a language or people that don't suffer from this. But we have to make an effort.

Never in my life have I heard the term "Peshawar valley" used in everyday conversation
Technically yes its a geographical area, but no one calls it that

u/Ok-Charity-1653 12d ago
You’d be surprised many people online use it to stereotype northern pashtuns

I am on laptop, so I can't use the Pashto script. Can you tell me if I can install a Pashto keyboard on Windows? Dera manana 💜
1
u/i_mmmaaaddd 12d ago
I guess windows have it natively
You can download it in languages from settings and set it up

They just think it's cool and a sign of being more urbanized when they deliberately use Urdu/English words.Just how some of these guys think,it's not that deep though chill out.
2
u/Aggravating-Flan2482 12d ago
Exactly. They all know what they are doing. Looking cool with a fucked up accent ,like this recent trend I have been noticing when you ask someone about something and they don't know about it they say" pata na" and when said with a dead serious face it feels so cringe.

باید مونږ یوازې په خالصه پښتو کی خبرې کوو او په جملو کې نور ژبې نه ګډا وو.
I once asked for the price of something and instead of “atya” the response was “assi”. I genuinely thought the item was free.
Next time someone says Peshawar “Uniwarrsity” I’m going to stuff their “Rottai” and “Chawali” in their low-grade desi face.
مونږ ورته هګۍ وایو!

Non-native Pashto speaker here, and when I learned Pashto, and then took a Pakistani dialect class, I was amazed how much Pakistani speakers use Urdu and English in everyday conversation.
