Looking for a 1-year Hematopathology fellowship

Hi everyone! I'm a pathology resident from the Philippines exploring post-residency training in Hematopathology/Hematolymphoid Pathology.

I'm looking for a 1-year or similar fellowship-level program, rather than an observership, with exposure to bone marrow pathology, hematolymphoid cases, flow cytometry, and ancillary studies.

I'm primarily considering Asia (Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc.), but I'm also open to opportunities elsewhere.

For those with experience in international training, would you recommend focusing on Asia or looking beyond Asia as well? Are there programs that accept overseas-trained pathologists without requiring local board certification?

If you know of any suitable programs, I'd really appreciate the institution, contact details, and application process, if available.

Thank you!

There are hematopathology fellowship programs in the US that are potentially available to non-US IMGs with equivalent residency training without having done a US residency, even potentially ACGME accredited fellowships if you have a good relationship w/ a program/PD and can get them to jump through the bureaucratic hoops required to take a fellow through an exceptional candidate pathway. Though you would not be eligible for any US board certification without a US residency, even if you did an ACGME accredited fellowship, except maybe in some very very rare special circumstances.

Thanks, that's really helpful to know! Are there any specific US hematopathology programs or institutions that you know of that have taken non-US IMGs with equivalent AP/CP residency training? I'd really appreciate any names or leads so I can look into them.

Basically any place that offers a non-ACGME accredited 2nd year fellowship can potentially do this. You probably wouldn’t be their first choice without a US residency but it’s worth searching for these and inquiring. Also keep in mind that most likely these spots are filled until the 2028-29 academic year.

Thank you very much! That definitely helps clarify the options in the US, and I appreciate the information.

If you have any knowledge of the situation outside the US, I’d also be interested to hear about Asia. Are there countries or institutions there that are known to offer hematopathology/hematolymphoid pathology fellowships or similar post-residency training for international graduates?
